The Virtue of the Word
Elder Mark D. Eddy
Of the Seventy
Indeed, throughout scripture we read of miraculous blessings poured out upon those who have chosen to try the virtue of the word of God in their lives. I invite you to ponder three examples with me as we turn our focus to the Book of Mormon - a book that President Russell M. Nelson described as "our latter-day survival guide."

I got up at 4:05 and the heater in the bathroom was not on. I tried to turn it on but it didn't come on. At first I thought it was the heater but I tried my curling iron and it didn't work either. I went in to the GFI plug in the hall bathroom and pushed it but that didn't help either. Then I realized something. I had turned the heater on in the downstairs bathroom before Stacy and Paul got here to warm things up. The heater in our bathroom and the heater in the downstairs bathroom can't be on at the same time. It always throws a breaker. I mentioned it to James and he got up and went outside to the breaker box but the breaker wasn't off. We couldn't figure it out. Very puzzling. James worked on this problem for two and a half days, finally solving it on Thursday afternoon as Stacy and Paul were leaving. He called David many times, ran from the hall bath, to our bathroom to the downstairs bath many times. Talk about getting your steps! We went to Home Depot to get new plugs, a new GFI plug, a new breaker and a tester. James finally discovered that it was the GFI plug in the hall bath and he fixed it. There for awhile I thought we were doomed to bathrooms without electricity. I am grateful for a husband and a brother-in-law who never give up when there is a problem to be solved.

I tried to watch a Christmas movie with Stacy. She does not like the Hallmark predictable ones so I chose "The Spirit of Christmas" which is a Lifetime movie. It's about a ghost who doesn't understand why he has to come back to the place where he was killed for 12 days out of the year at Christmas time. Everyone thinks the inn where he lives is haunted. Jen Lilley's character is sent out to have the inn appraised so it can be sold but she ends up falling in love with the ghost. It is really quite good and Kim and I both loved it. Stacy liked it okay.

Aurora came over this morning. She is Erik's and Amelia's oldest daughter. She knows Joshua because they had seminary together for awhile until she had to change her schedule. She came over to charge her phone but she asked where Joshua was. They wanted to find a place with some snow so they could go sledding and she wanted to invite Joshua to go with them. He was outside. When he came in we told him Aurora was looking for him so he went back outside to find her. Soon all of the kids came inside for some hot chocolate. Joshua made them each a cup. While all of this is going on Paul is working and when he is one a call we have to ask the children to be quiet.

Later Amelia came over and brought a notebook and pen with her. She was just called as their wards Relief Society president and she is re-doing all of the ministering districts. She said that Cid Elmer was the secretary over ministering but she recently moved, which we already knew. Cid did not want to move to Houston but I guess they needed to sell their home to supplement their retirement fund. Home are expensive in Chandler and they can get a home in Houston for $150,000. Their daughter Jillie lives there so that is another reason for choosing Houston.

It is very windy today and is supposed to snow tomorrow. Erik is hunting over near Eagar. James called him because we didn't have Amelia's number and asked if there was anything we could get for them when we went into town. He said no that he had stopped in Springerville and picked up some pizza.

James and I ate at La Casita again and then I went shopping at Walmart and he went to his favorite store, Home Depot to get some plugs for the house.

I watched a couple of Christmas movies while walking as is my habit this time of year.

Some of my gospel study for today:

Elder Olsen's talk - "Youth today are born for greatness."
"We must know Christ better and love him and serve him better."
