 Elder Isaac K. Morrison

President Russell M. Nelson taught,
"When the focus of our lives is on God's plan of salvation ... and Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening - or not happening - in our lives." He further said, "Joy comes from and because of Him"

"Come unto Jesus, ye heavy laden,
care-worn and fainting, by sin oppressed.
He'll safely guide you unto that haven
Where all who trust Him may rest"
(Hymns No. 117)

Up at 4:30 this morning. I rolled my hair in curlers before church, something I haven't done for a very long time. My hair is also longer than it has been for a very long time and I feel like I need a new style or more control, or something.

As I was heating up my lemon water in the kitchen I went onto Facebook. This is the first picture I saw:
This is a picture of the new
Chandler West stake Relief Society Presidency
Juanita Withers is the President
Laurel Chipman a counselor
Jennifer Ray a counselor
Amber Bodily - secretary

I have known Juanita Withers for a very long time and Laurel Chipman for about 30 years. Jennifer Ray grew up as Jennifer Heyman in Chandler and Amber Bodily is in Sheri's ward. When we attended Sheri's ward in August 2021 she spoke about the talk given by Sister Jones, "Essential Conversations." Juanita and Laurel both lost grown sons recently so they have something in common. I think this is going to be a great presidency!

It was windy today but our car was so dirty I wanted to park as far away from the front door as we could.

My friend Sue Hubble who had knee replacement surgery on January 3rd came to church today for the first time this month. I was so happy to see her and asked her to sit by me, which she did.

Pierce Goodman conducted sacrament meeting today and the three wives of the bishopric were the speakers.
Tina Allen was first. She was not given a topic so she shared her conversion story and a little bit of her background before she joined the church. She was baptized when she was 17 and no one from her family attended but over 200 students from Mesa High School did.
She bore her testimony and told of the importance of family and the temple in her life.

Susan Goodman was next. She said that she and Pierce have 15 children and 54 grandchildren together. She told a story of a time in her life when she got up in the morning and was so discouraged she didn't get dressed but laid down on the couch and cried herself to sleep. She heard a knock on her back door and when she opened it, it was her uncle who looked a lot like her dad whom she was close to when he was alive. The uncle who was usually very brusque was gentle with her and very understanding. Her first husband left her with 8 children so she probably had reason to be depressed. Her uncle gave her what she needed to carry on.  She bore a strong testimony of the temple and of the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Last was Alicia Hunsaker. Alicia spoke a little about ministering angels and miracles. Here are some notes I took:
Immanuel means God with us. "Oh Savior, stay this night with me, behold tis eventide." Warriors for Christ. Ministering angels are sometimes members of our family in heaven. Am I all in?
Psalms 22:5 - They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.
Mosiah 25:8 - For they knew not what to think; for when they beheld those that had been delivered out of bondage they were filled with exceedingly great joy.
Jesus Christ is the anointed one sent down to heal us.

Since this is the 5th Sunday, the bishopric is in charge of the second hour. We were asked to read a talk given by Elder Dallin H Oaks in the October 1998 priesthood session of General Conference called:
"The Aaronic Priesthood and the Sacrament." Just a couple of quotes from this talk:
*Those who hold the Aaronic Priesthood open the door for all Church members who worthily partake of the sacrament to enjoy the companionship of the Spirit of the Lord and the ministering of angels.
*In general, the blessings of spiritual companionship and communication are only available to those who are clean. As explained earlier, through the Aaronic Priesthood ordinances of baptism and the sacrament, we are cleansed of our sins and promised that if we keep our covenants we will always have His Spirit to be with us. I believe that promise not only refers to the Holy Ghost but also to the ministering of angels, for "angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore, they speak the words of Christ" (2 Ne. 32:3).

Bishop Hunsaker issued a challenge to us before we went home today. He ask us if we would give up two of our favorite "sins" this week. James and I talked about it and decided the two we are going to "give up" or work on are these: No TV or entertainment on Sunday unless it is gospel related and we are going to strive to "cease to be contentious."

James visited Joe Vaal this afternoon with Greg Anderson and they gave him a blessing. The blessing was that he would feel less anxiety and he would be able to sleep at night. Greg and James had a nice visit with Joe. Greg bonded with him because they both served in the military and Joe told them some stories from World War II and his family coming to America and how he learned to speak English in the military. He went to church with his granddaughter again and had the same complaint. No pictures of Jesus and Jesus was not mentioned in the talks. I told James I want to get him a picture of Jesus to hang in his house.

Darrel and Trina are still in Hawaii. Darrel said it has rained almost the entire time. They will be leaving on Tuesday and will be home Wednesday morning.

I wrote a message to Sheri & Ian's boys this evening. It went something like this:
I was so sorry to hear of your Papa's passing. Your Nana is going to be lonely and will need your visits and love even more than she has in the past.
When you look at your Papa's body know that it is just the shell that housed his spirit. His spirit lives and someday because of Jesus Christ he will be resurrected and his spirit and body will be together again for eternity. Death is just a stepping stone into a new and better life.
I know you will miss him and that is sad, but when you see him again he will be pain free.
I love you all!

I also sent this message to Rowan, Joshua, Evan, and Ruby:
I hope you guys got to watch the Worldwide Broadcast for youth with Elder Gong, Brother Lund, and Sister Cordon this afternoon. It was so good! The youth them for this year: "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (Philippians 4:13) is my all time favorite scripture. At the lowest point in my life this scripture gave me hope and I began to read the scriptures to learn more about my Savior, Jesus Christ. I hope you will find comfort and strength in knowing how much He loves you and cares for you and that you will want to learn more about Him by read the scriptures.
I love you!

This message from Cathi today regarding Laura:
Laura came off the ventilator at 11:00 this morning. She is really doing well. Thank you so much for your continued prayers!

Stacy called today to say that Joshua and Evan are going to FSY and they will be roommates. They are going to the one in Tucson. Rowan wants to go with them but I'm not sure if he got registered or not. Ruby should be going too and since her parents are out of town I told her to have her gramma Case help her.

Happy Sabbath from Charlie!

My friend Stephanie Black who lives in northern California
took this picture. She used to live in Chandler and was the choir director for our ward. She is the only person who ever got me to
sing in the choir. She is also Bruce R. McConkie's granddaughter and
she write murder mystery novels.
