Presiding Bishop
The work of creation is not an end in itself. It is an integral part of God's plan for His children. Its purpose is to provide the setting in which men and women may be tested, exercise their agency, find joy, and learn and progress so that they may one day return to the presence of their Creator and inherit eternal life.
It was 7 degrees and there was about 4" of snow on the ground this morning when I left around 7:45. I arrived at the Vernon church around 8:00, the first one. The RS sisters who want to are carpooling to the 9:30 session at the Snowflake temple this morning. Stefani Hunsaker was the next one to arrive and parked next to me in her Ford Explorer. A few minutes later Brother Peeler and Donna drove up and parked next to Stefani. Soon I saw Donna get into Stefani's car so I turned my car off and asked Stefani if she was driving. When she said yes, I asked if I could ride with her. Yes. I told her that I had said I would drive but I guess I wasn't needed and there was more room in her car than mine. Rosie Lauritzen drove up and said she was waiting for Barbara Bartels. We waited with her until 8:15, the designated time we set to leave, and we all left. I told Barbara, who showed up at the temple by herself, that we had waited until 8:15 for her. She said, "I got there at 8:19."
As we were driving along, me in the backseat and Donna in the front along with Stefani, I happened to look at my phone and I noticed that Natalie Robles had called. She was supposed to meet at Dollar General with those sisters in that direction who wanted to come this morning. I called Natalie and she said she was the only one there and could we pick her up? Of course we could, and we did.
The first person we saw that we knew when we got to the temple was Brother Applegate at the recommend desk. He had his black arm sling on and I asked if he couldn't find a white one. He said no he couldn't and that he had looked. When we got upstairs the sister working at the top of the stairs also had a black sling on. It was just a funny coincidence.
I had my own family name to do, Maddie J. Tyson. I sat by Natalie in the session. Sue Young and Janna Grombach were on our row. Donna Peeler and Rosie Lauritzen were in front of us and Cheryl Sedig, Barbara Bartels, and Stefani Hunsaker were behind us, nine of us in all. Another member of our ward was one of the sister followers, Sister Judy Hunter. President VanWinkle, of the Show Low stake, was the officiator. His wife was also at the recommend desk downstairs. He was in the stake presidency when we were members of the Show Low stake. Charles Patterson was the only other person I knew in our session. I went to high school with Charles or Charlie as we called him in high school.
It was a great session except for the fact that the screen was broken and wouldn't go up so to temple worker brethren held it up as we went through the veil. After our session, everyone, except Sue Young met at Ava's for lunch. Sue stayed at the temple where she is being set apart as a temple worker. Judy Hunter placed a pick up order at Ava's and she came in to pick it up and ended up joining us at our table. I had one of the lunch specials, a chicken enchilada with rice and beans for $9.99. I sat by Natalie and Barbara Bartels. We sat in the back room and had it all to ourselves.
Even though the high was only 28 it was a nice day because the sun was shining and there was no wind.
When I got home James is sitting at his point at the dining room table working on his computer. I notice the box with the blower is all taped up and ready to be returned. I asked him if we were going today to return it and he said no, tomorrow when he goes to the doctor. I was glad. I got my lights, shoved them back in the box and set them with the blower.
I needed to mail Ben's card and it was apparent that James wasn't going anywhere because he went in to take a nap. I changed my clothes and headed to the Vernon post office. I mailed Ben's card and picked up about four quite large packages. I went home, opened them and put them away all before James got up. One was for him.
Sheri texted me today and informed me that "Twitch", Steven Boss, had committed suicide. This is sad news. I am always watching dance videos he and his wife Allison do together in their home, sometimes with their children, sometimes by themselves. My heart is hurting for his family.
I wrapped all of the Texas gifts except for one thing I got for Autumn and Palmer that hasn't come yet. Hopefully it will come soon. I am sending Jared's kids, James, Anna, Emmy, and Molly money so they can buy what they want.
This evening I walked, wrapped, blogged, and watched Christmas movies. Another string of lights went out on the tree but I don't even care. James is trying to get workman comp insurance for Bob Joye at the Casa Grande job. If he doesn't do this, he may get his contractor's license revoked.
This is the dear sweet sister who got me to join
the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers when I was
her visiting teacher.
