A Framework For Personal Revelation
Elder Dale G. Renlund
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
A third element of the framework is that personal revelation will be in harmony with the commandments of God and the covenants we have made with Him. When we ask for revelation about something for which God has already given clear direction, we open ourselves up to misinterpreting our feelings and hearing what we want to hear.

I studied and prepared for my presentation on the prophet Amos this morning. I timed myself to make sure I stay in the four minute allotted time. I am prepared and I have learned to love the prophet Amos. Here are some of the things I included in my talk:
In Amos 4 the Lord punishes rebellious Israel by withholding rain, which causes famine. Still, the people do not repent and turn back to Jehovah. In verse one, Amos compares the women of Samaria (capital of Israel) with the fat cows that feed in the rich, green pastures in the mountains of Samaria without doing any other work except eat and take care of themselves. His point is that the women of Israel are not taking proper care of their children and are not raising them to know and keep the commandments of the Lord. The lessons is that as the mothers go, so go the children, and so goes the nation. Also, these women are pressing their husbands to squeeze money out of the poorer citizens in order to bring their lazy wives better drink and richer food.
Truths of Amos:
Surely, the Lord will always reveal truth through his prophets. (Amos 3:3-7)
Problems are best solved by returning to God and seeking his counsel. (Amos 4:6-11, 5:4, 6, 8, 14-15)
Eventually, justice will always overtake the sin. (Amos 5:16-20; 6:8-11; 9:1-3, 10)
The Lord desires righteousness over outward display of religion. (Amos 5:21-24)
The loss of the Lord's words and counsel create a spiritual famine that nothing else can satisfy. (Amos 8:11-13)
The Lord is a forgiving God, therefore, there is always hope. (Amos 9:11-15)
Neglecting the poor is a sin.

We left for church at 8:45, right on time! The first person I spoke to at church was my friend Janna Grombach. She just had lapband surgery and she looks beautiful. She was beautiful before the surgery but she looked extra beautiful today.

Collin DeWitt and James were twins today except for their ties. Collin had on a Christmas tie. They both had tan slacks and navy blue jackets with white shirts, and brown shoes. Collin said, "It looks like we went to the same tailor." Collin does have a facial beard. I should have told him that No shave November is over.

I gave a general conference journal addition to Millie Scott. I had an extra one to give and I tried to think of someone who doesn't have a smart phone or may not have a Liahona subscription. She seemed very pleased.

Donna Peeler is sick today. She has a sore throat. It might have something to do with the procedure they did on her where they fished a tube down her throat.

Wendy DeWitt thanked me for the birthday card I gave her back in December and said it was the nicest card she has ever received.

Brother Allen conducted the meeting today. Sister Golly lead the music and Sister Rosen played the organ. The Anderson's said the prayers. They said them last week too. James is going to ask Greg if that's his new calling, praying in sacrament meeting.

People who bore their testimonies today:
Steve Allen - Grateful for the gospel in his life and for all of the blessing he and his family have received because of it.
Dagny Tesarek - Her friends call her Chimi. I know the Church is true and that God loves us.
_______Wilhelm - granddaughter of Guy Wilhelm. Mortality is temporary. I am waiting for eternity which lasts forever. My grandfather was a wonderful man. The Spirit can bring happy memories to our remembrance.
Greg Anderson - I love this time of year because of the focus on Jesus Christ. He gives us hope in a dying world. Hope in Christ through the Spirit of the Holy Ghost.
Camilla Wilhelm - Another granddaughter of Guy. Families are central to God's plan. I love my family.
Georgia Jameson - I know the Church is true.
Janna Grombach - Grateful for Jesus Christ.
Dave Westbrook - Served with Guy Wilhelm in the branch presidency here in Vernon. Guy met with Brother Stevens who owned the land the church is on and convinced him to sell it to the church for a chapel, which he did.
Cheryl Sedig - I love everything about Christmas, even the shopping.
Loren Ellsworth - Guy Wilhelm invited him as a 17 year old to have dinner with his family.
_______Wilhelm - (Tamara's brother, I think) I testify of the principle of unity. Jesus Christ is my Savior and I need Him. I testify of this by the power of the Holy Ghost.
Becky Skousen - The youth did a deep clean of the Church building this week. They are strong and better than me. I am grateful that my grandchildren are being raised in the Church.
Elder Piper - New missionary assigned to our ward from Nashville, Tennessee. We need to know how to access the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
Martine - I have a testimony of love.(Inactive for over 30 years). My wife is a true example of what an eternal companion should be. God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son.
Sister Rosen - The glory of Jesus is love. Thank you missionaries for sharing the gospel with me in New York all those years ago.
Kathy Crane - Satan has been working on me through my health and depression. I love my Church family. Jesus is the Christ and He and Heavenly Father are there to help us. Guy Wilhelm helped me to adjust to Vernon. Ask, and Jesus will help you.

James and I broke our fast around 3 p.m. I'm afraid we didn't sit down and eat a balanced meal. We had sweet potatoes, apple pie and ice cream. Where is the protein?

During rest time I finished my Seeking Jesus study of lecture #4 about Moses and started #5, Ancient Prophets Testify of Christ.
At six o'clock this evening we watched the First Presidency Christmas Devotional. It was very enjoyable, both the speakers and the music.

The MacArthur girls got their birthday presents this evening. I thought they were coming by at 9:30 this evening so I sat them out on the porch for them to pick them up when they got home from town. They sent me this picture.

We forgot Peyton's birthday back in February
so I gave her the Candy Land game.
