"Preaching The Gospel of Peace"
President Russell M. Nelson
President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
All missionaries teach and testify of the Savior. The spiritual darkness in the world makes the light of Jesus Christ needed more than ever. Everyone deserves the chance to know about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Every person deserves to know where they can find the hope and peace that "pass all understanding."

"Missionary Service Blessed My Life Forever"
President M. Russell Ballard
Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
If you are still in the age range for missionary service but have not served yet due to the pandemic or other reasons, I invite you to serve now. Talk to your bishop, and prepare to serve the Lord.

I am grateful for Greg Anderson. He went with James to Globe again today and took his paint sprayer so they could finish painting the walls. I am grateful to him because it helps me to feel better knowing James is not alone if something happens. He is such a good guy and he and James talk about the gospel most of the time when they are together.

I began studying for my talk I will be giving next Sunday in sacrament meeting. Pierce asked that I speak on President Eyring's talk, "Steady in the Storms" and James is to speak on President Nelson's opening address, "Preaching the Gospel of Peace."

I left for town around 10:40 this morning placing an order with Sonic before leaving. I went down 3144 instead of taking the highway so I could see the sunflower field again. I know, I am obsessed, but I also know they aren't going to be around forever. After getting my diet cherry limeade and chicken slinger at Sonic I went to the post office to mail a thank you card to Dawn and Lois and a get well card to Aunt Gene. Next stop was Goodwill to donate the old games and puzzles I cleaned off the game shelf. Circle K for gas, Home Depot to look at paint samples, and then to Walmart for groceries and a prescription. Walmart was crazy busy as usual. When I was finished shopping I went back to Home Depot to pick up my paint samples. For a small sample of two different paint colors it cost me $6.48 per sample. I thought that was pretty outrageous for the amount of paint I got. I was going to make a stop at Dollar Tree but was too tired so I went on home. It was 90 degrees when I left Show Low and 84 when I got home to Vernon. It's that much cooler here.

I put groceries away and took a break before fixing dinner. Dinner tonight is a new beef and noodle recipe I found along with a salad.

I rained for a short time just as James got home. He said this was the only place it was raining. After dinner I began painting the walls in my bedroom with both colors to see which one I liked best. Neither one. I need to go back tomorrow and pick something else out. A little too green, I need something with gray undertones.

I went on Amazon and chose four difffent bedspreads or ensembles, whatever. Two of them are white and the other two have green in them with a pattern.

As I'm working on my blog James walks in and wants to listen to "Daring Proposal" so he can walk. I stop what I'm doing and start the book and begin walking with him. I've already got my 10,000 steps but I'm going for 12.

I am blogging August 27th, Charlie's birthday and I have 47 photos to post which is taking awhile. I'm having problems with my computer so I am going to finish tomorrow. We listen to one more chapter and I end up with 13,000 steps.

James has a bad cough which is going to make it hard for him to sleep tonight. It's from sanding drywall and breathing the drywall dust. I am so grateful for my hard-working husband.

Darrel does not want a birthday cake so I won't be making him one.

Positive spiritual momentum increases as we worship in the temple and grow in our understanding of the magnificent breadth and depth of the blessings we receive there. I plead with you to counter worldly ways by focusing on the eternal blessings of the temple. Your time there brings blessings for eternity.

After family prayer this morning James and Greg left for Globe. I am up and ready to start my day. I do love having prayer with James before he leaves in the morning. He helps me feel like he is going to be watched over and protected for the day.

Mountains, flowers, and antelope paint a beautiful picture and that's the one I saw when I left this morning to go take a picture of the Truth Rally tent. I didn't get a picture of the antelope but I did get a picture of the tent before they took it down.

These signs were all over town along with ones
that said, "Truth Rally."
I wonder what kind of truth they are teaching
and what kind of truth they are looking for.
They can find it at the LDS church in town.

It's 2:08 in the afternoon and I am still working on my first blogpost.
I need to do two a day if I am ever going to catch up. I need to take my computer in but if I do I will never get caught up on my blogging. It's a Catch 22.

James got home around 3:30. They came home early because Greg has some missionary work to do. He is the ward mission leader. James was hungry so he had some of Brian's leftover stew.

While James laid down for a nap I finished up my second blog post. Don't we lead an exciting life! I also finished reading Blackmoore and began reading Ruby's favorite Julianne Donaldson book, "Edenbrooke." Edenbrooke is much more light-hearted and I like it better too.

James is working on a contract for doing some work at the Glendale airport, building hangars. I guess someone heard about the ones he built in Casa Grande.

I paid our mortgage and my credit card today. They are due tomorrow so I'm ahead of the game!

I found some interesting information about sunflowers today in the new LDS Living magazine.
1.) Ten years ago, a devasting tsunami hit a nuclear power plant in Fukushima, Japan. Toxic radioactive waste was released into the surrounding areas, and about 110,000 residents had to be evacuated. To help clean up the area, scientists planted millions of sunflowers. Why? Not only will the plants grow just about anywhere, but they also absorb toxins and help purify soil.

2.) The French word for sunflower is tournesol, which literally means "turns with the sun."

3.) Elder Quentin L. Cook made a beautiful analogy about sunflowers in his April 2015 general conference talk: "Sunflowers flourish in soil which has been impacted by farm and snow removal equipment and the accumulation of materials that would not be considered ideal soil for wildflowers to grow....Like the young sunflower, when we follow the Savior of the world, the Son of God, we flourish and become glorious despite the many terrible circumstances that surround us."

4.) A German gardener named Hans-Peter Schiffer loves sunflowers so much that he has broken his own world record for the tallest sunflower three times. His latest record-setting bloom is 30 feet and 1 inch tall.

5.) One sunflower can produce 1,000 snackable seeds.

Interesting information for a town that is covered in sunflowers. I love them even more now.

Charlie is going to go to preschool!

I know, I know,
Sunflower overload.
Objects are larger and prettier than they appear in photo.

"Our Heartfelt All"
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Sacrifice and consecration are two heavenly laws that we covenant to obey in the holy temple. These two laws are similar but not identical. To sacrifice means to give something up in favor of something more valuable. Anciently, God's people sacrificed the firstlings of their flocks in honor of the coming Messiah. Throughout history, faithful Saints have sacrificed personal desires, comforts, and even their lives for the Savior.

I got up around six this morning. James has to get the rental car back to Hatch Toyota by 8 o'clock so we won't be charged for another day. Before he left this morning he had to chase a herd of cows away from Luna's water. When he was finished he parked the Razr by the water trough thinking it might keep cows from coming back.

He left the house around 7:15 and at 7:30 as I was leaving he called and said traffic was stopped for the construction work near the Y. I thought I had a little extra time so I went down 3144 to take a couple of pictures of the sunflower field. I ended up being about 10-15 minutes late picking James up. When he got in the car I asked if I could go get a taco at Aliberto's in Wagon Wheel. He said sure. So nice, especially since I already made him wait for me.

I got two shredded beef tacos and ate one of them when we got back home and saved the other one for later. James's back is bothering him so he went in to take a nap. I watched the newest GAC movie, "Love In Bloom" while eating my taco in the family room. When I was finished I went into the bedroom and began blogging for August 23rd. Yes, I am an entire week behind.

I cleaned the game shelf in the family room today and put lots of puzzles and games into the Goodwill box. I am very pleased with the results of my cleaning and organizing.

I should have taken some
before and after pictures.

Jared and Kacey spent the night in Dallas and took turns going to the temple today. After the temple they took Charlie somewhere fun.

Since I'm on the topic of Jared, Kacey, and Charlie, I wanted to share a story Jared told while we were at their house. Normally on Sundays he is off visiting another ward as part of his high council assignment. He visited a branch in a small place called Hemphill where church is held in a double-wide modular home. A storm came through and did some damage to the building and it was leaking. Jared and someone else whom I believe was also from the stake went out and bought tarps to put over the building at the cost of over $600. The Church owns 28 (I think) acres in this town and there is another building on the property. Perhaps church could be held in this other building or maybe some of the property could be sold to fund a new building.

I registered both my car and the Razr today. I also found my insurance card which went missing, and put it in my car.

I played General Conference catchup today listening to several talks to get me caught up. I listen to every talk every month and I was behind, so today was catchup day.

James worked at the Thompson's today doing cleanup. Greg had already done a lot of the cleanup which James was grateful for.

Finished watching "Love in Bloom." Here is a quote from the movie:
"Aren't daisies and sunflowers considered a weed?" " Weeds are just flowers who refuse to grow in a row.

I like the idea of small cakes.
