"The Doctrine of Belonging"
Elder D. Todd Christofferson
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
How blessed we are to see the day that Zion is being established simultaneously on every continent and in our own neighborhoods. As the Prophet Joseph Smith said, the people of God in every age have looked forward with joyful anticipation to this day, and "we are the favored people that God has made choice of to bring about the Latter-day glory."

I got up at 3:38 and turned the space heater on. I got up for good at 4:10. I said my prayers and recorded them in my prayer journal then I did some gospel study. Today is Relief Society and we are discussing President Oaks's talk, "Helping the Poor and Distressed" so I listened to this talk along with Elder Christofferson's talk, "The Doctrine of Belonging."

At 7:06 the electricity went off. I am not sure why. After it had been off for about 20 minutes I decided I better put my hair in rollers if I was going to have any kind of hairdo at all for church. This was just in case the electricity didn't come back on. Luckily it did come back on around 8 a.m., just in time for me to get ready for church.

Today was the Primary Children's Program about prophets. I was so happy to see that the MacArthur girls were here! Their parents were sitting back in the overflow. Church was especially full today. The children are always a big draw.

All of the children had a speaking part but, of course, the part I like best is the singing. Here are the songs they sang: "I'm Trying To Be Like Jesus" (my favorite!), "Follow the Prophet", "As I Have Loved You" (sign language), "We Thank Thee O God For a Prophet", "I Wonder When He Comes Again", "Teach Me to Walk in the Light", and "Gethsemane."
It was a great program, as it always is.

Wendy DeWitt was the teacher in Relief Society. Sue Hubble and I sat on the front row. Wendy told some great stories. I especially liked the one about Harold B. Lee as a stake president in California during the depression. Heber J. Grant was the prophet and was worried about how many members of the Church were standing in bread lines. He noticed a sudden change from President Lee's stake regarding members who needed assistance. It went from many to none. He contacted President Lee and asked what his secret was. President Lee said this: A member in our stake has a big barn. One day a month everyone who needs assistance comes and brings something they have to exchange with something they need. No one goes away empty handed. President Grant said every stake in the Church needed one of these gathering barns. That is when buildings started to include cultural halls. This was also the beginning of the Church's welfare system.

Paula Johnson got up and talked about the Vernon Food Pantry which distributes food to needy families in the area every Monday at the library. Paula has been helping with this since 2012. 250 families are signed up. Paula sends out 500 emails regarding needs of the community and how people can help. She is such a good example of community involvement and service!

Collin, Wendy's husband, taught the same lesson in Elder's Quorum.

Chuck told me the tacos we made for them were delicious. I did not see Kathy today. I hope my tacos didn't make her ill.

James and I made lunch when we returned home. Tacos, strawberries with apple bread. I also had a croissant with some Nutella.

Next we had rest time. James got up early from his nap and did some indexing before he and Dave Westbrook went to visit Barbara Bartels. This is the third week in a row that they have done ministering visits. Someone James already visited, Virgil Cooper, is in the hospital. He called Greg Anderson and asked him if he could take him. James was a little upset that Virgil didn't call him. I He was going to go pick him up but then he heard that Virgil was staying overnight and his good friend, Jerry Scott, was going to visit him.

I blogged, indexed, and worked on family history this afternoon and evening. On the first page of the family history sign in there is always a recommended list. One of the names on the list was Samuel Lawrence Strickland, another one of my grandpa's brothers that I wasn't aware of. When I went to print a card to do his endowment, his other work had already been done, it was reserved by: Joshua Ivan Gonzales, February 2022. I was pleasantly surprised that Joshua had been on Family Search. I called Stacy and she put Joshua on the phone. He said he remembered doing this. I asked him if he could either print the name or unreserve it so I could have it. He said he would. He also asked me if I wanted him to unreserve Arthur and William Strickland too? I told him yes. I knew about William, but i have never heard of Arthur. It's been too long since I have worked on this line of my family!

I am distraught. I keep my temple names that need ordinances, in a small, 4x6 packet with plastic sleeves. I normally have it in one of my purses. I went through all of my purses and my temple bag and I cannot find it. I am so sad that I have lost it. James says I need to go bake online and print out the names again. How can I trust myself not to lose them again?

I was tired and stressed so I sat down to watch a Christmas movie with James. We watched "A Merry Christmas Wish" starring Jill Wagner, James's favorite, and Cameron Mathison. It was just what I needed before going to bed.

"And They Sought to See Jesus Who He Was"
Elder James W. McConkie III
Of the Seventy
As our family entered the mission field, something Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin taught went with us. In a talk titled "The Great Commandment," Elder Wirthlin asked, "Do you love the Lord?" His counsel to those of us who would answer yes was simple and profound: "Spend time with Him. Meditate on His words. Take HIs yoke upon you. Seek to understand and obey." Elder Wirthlin then promised transformative blessings to those willing to give time and place to Jesus Christ.

"Building a Life Resistant to the Adversary"
Elder Jorge F. Zeballos
Of the Seventy
How blessed we are to count on a knowledge of the plan of salvation created by our Heavenly Father, to have the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and to rely on the inspired direction of living prophets! All the former constitute the divinely designed "plans" and the "technical specifications" that teach us clearly how to construct happy lives - lives that are resistant to sin, resistant to temptation, resistant to attacks from Satan, who is desperately seeking to frustrate our eternal destiny to be together with out Heavenly Father and with our beloved families.

I woke up right at 4 a.m. It is 21 degrees this morning. I love my prayer journal. I feel like I am really talking to Heavenly Father and pouring my heart out to Him. I feel closer to Him than I ever have before.

My blood sugar was 118 this morning, in range.

James tried to file his sales taxes for last month but just like last month he can't get on to their website. Even though he doesn't owe any taxes, if he doesn't file he will be charged a $50 late fee for not filing. Also, he can't do it via mail, he has to do it online. I guess I should have tried to help him but I was busy making apple bread. I tried a new recipe, this one doesn't have nuts. This one is done in layers. The dough, the apple mixture, and the cinnamon and brown sugar and then repeated. I really like the flavor.

After lunch and a short rest time I began making chicken tacos. I made two dozen, six for Kathy without green chilies or onions, 12 more with green chilies and onions for James and Chuck and since I ran out of chicken the last six were just cheese for me.

James worked at Barbara's this afternoon and got home just in time to take a shower and then deliver dinner to the Crane's. There were a dozen tacos, a salad, and two kinds of apple bread in fancy boxes. (Kathy really liked the boxes and she said the food was delicious.)

James also went by the MacArthur's and picked up a dozen eggs. I had texted Chelsea earlier and they said they weren't home but James could go over and get some eggs out of the coop if he wanted. He told me about the dog going crazy and jumping all over him. He said they have some chickens that lay very large eggs. I wanted to bring some money by to pay the girls later but Chelsea said no, they would catch us next time. She also mentioned that Jarred had some more wood to bring us. I told her I was going to make her some chicken tacos.

I didn't get my 12,000 steps by 6 o'clock. I only had 6,000. I walked and watched a couple of Christmas movies, one I had started earlier, "A Christmas Retreat" and "A Merry Measure." I didn't finish the last one but I really like it and will finish it later. James came in and finished painting the bedroom. I took a shower and washed my hair and it was 9:10. He wanted to read a chapter from our book but I told him no because it was my bedtime since I get up at 4 a.m. We had family prayer, our individual prayers, and went to bed. I washed the sheets today. I love going to bed with extra clean sheets.

"In Partnership with the Lord"
Elder Ulisses Soares
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
The restored gospel of Jesus Christ proclaims the principle of full partnership between woman and man, both in mortal life and in the eternities. Although each possesses specific attributes and divinely appointed responsibilities, woman and man fill equally relevant and essential roles in God's plan of happiness for HIs children. This was evident from the very beginning when the Lord declared "that it was not good that the man should be alone; wherefore He would make an help meet for him."

Up at 4:12. Prayer journal and gospel study and then scriptures and prayer with James.

Now they are saying the election results for Arizona may take up to 12 days. Brian says Arizona is an embarrassment!

James needed to scan some documents this morning. He forgot how to do it so I helped him figure it out. It took almost 30 minutes, but I did it. James was impressed and he says he doesn't have the patience to do this kind of stuff. I guess that's why I am here. Glad I can sometimes be useful.

We went to town, leaving around 10:30. We stopped at the post office but it was closed because of the holiday. I never received my Debbie Macomber book although Amazon says it was delivered. James was going to talk to John, our postmaster about it. I guess we will have to wait until Monday.

We picked up our Sonic Slingers and drinks and then James had to get something at Home Depot. Afterwards we went across the street to Circle K to fill my car with gas. James went inside and bought each of us an Almond Joy. I shouldn't have, but I did.

It was rest time when we returned home. I sat down in the family room to watch "The Great British Bake Off." James sat by me but kept going into the kitchen for snacks. He watched the entire show with me. It was patisserre week. Syabira should have gotten star baker but she has had it three times. Abdul was good too and he has never been star baker so they gave it to him. Syabira's showstopper was a replica of a DNA strand setting on chromosomes. It was awesome. Abdul's was all about outer space. Janusz went home which means, Sybira, Abdul, and Sandro will be in the finale next week.

James went into the bedroom to take a nap and then he met Greg at the Bartels to work on the Cat. They finally got it running. In the meantime I made some apple bread with walnuts. I also texted Kathy Crane's who has not been feeling well and volunteered to take them dinner tomorrow. I am going to make chicken tacos, a salad, and apple bread. Kathy has stomach issues and asked that I not put onions or green chilies in the tacos. When I told James he said, "maybe you could put them in a few for Chuck and I."

I had over 12,000 steps by 6:15 this evening. This is going to be my goal every night!

James and I started a new book today. It is called, "The Call of the Sea" by Sian Ann Bessey. Someone has already been killed so I don't know how well I am going to like it.

I finally caught up on my blog! I was listening to the Come Follow Me Hosea, Joel episode of "Teaching with Power" this evening when James came in and asked if we could read a couple of chapters from the book so he could walk. I played the chapters and he walked. I already had all of my steps.

I finished "Original Grace" and began listening to "Believing Christ" by Stephen E. Robinson. I forgot how much I liked "Believing Christ."

I also listened to Inklings today. They discussed Sister Browning's talk, "Seeing More of Jesus Christ in Our Lives." One of my favorite conference talks. "The Savior invites us to see our lives through Him in order to see more of Him in our lives."
