"And They Sought to See Jesus Who He Was"
Elder James W. McConkie III
Of the Seventy
As our family entered the mission field, something Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin taught went with us. In a talk titled "The Great Commandment," Elder Wirthlin asked, "Do you love the Lord?" His counsel to those of us who would answer yes was simple and profound: "Spend time with Him. Meditate on His words. Take HIs yoke upon you. Seek to understand and obey." Elder Wirthlin then promised transformative blessings to those willing to give time and place to Jesus Christ.
"Building a Life Resistant to the Adversary"
Elder Jorge F. Zeballos
Of the Seventy
How blessed we are to count on a knowledge of the plan of salvation created by our Heavenly Father, to have the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and to rely on the inspired direction of living prophets! All the former constitute the divinely designed "plans" and the "technical specifications" that teach us clearly how to construct happy lives - lives that are resistant to sin, resistant to temptation, resistant to attacks from Satan, who is desperately seeking to frustrate our eternal destiny to be together with out Heavenly Father and with our beloved families.
I woke up right at 4 a.m. It is 21 degrees this morning. I love my prayer journal. I feel like I am really talking to Heavenly Father and pouring my heart out to Him. I feel closer to Him than I ever have before.
My blood sugar was 118 this morning, in range.
James tried to file his sales taxes for last month but just like last month he can't get on to their website. Even though he doesn't owe any taxes, if he doesn't file he will be charged a $50 late fee for not filing. Also, he can't do it via mail, he has to do it online. I guess I should have tried to help him but I was busy making apple bread. I tried a new recipe, this one doesn't have nuts. This one is done in layers. The dough, the apple mixture, and the cinnamon and brown sugar and then repeated. I really like the flavor.
After lunch and a short rest time I began making chicken tacos. I made two dozen, six for Kathy without green chilies or onions, 12 more with green chilies and onions for James and Chuck and since I ran out of chicken the last six were just cheese for me.
James worked at Barbara's this afternoon and got home just in time to take a shower and then deliver dinner to the Crane's. There were a dozen tacos, a salad, and two kinds of apple bread in fancy boxes. (Kathy really liked the boxes and she said the food was delicious.)
James also went by the MacArthur's and picked up a dozen eggs. I had texted Chelsea earlier and they said they weren't home but James could go over and get some eggs out of the coop if he wanted. He told me about the dog going crazy and jumping all over him. He said they have some chickens that lay very large eggs. I wanted to bring some money by to pay the girls later but Chelsea said no, they would catch us next time. She also mentioned that Jarred had some more wood to bring us. I told her I was going to make her some chicken tacos.
I didn't get my 12,000 steps by 6 o'clock. I only had 6,000. I walked and watched a couple of Christmas movies, one I had started earlier, "A Christmas Retreat" and "A Merry Measure." I didn't finish the last one but I really like it and will finish it later. James came in and finished painting the bedroom. I took a shower and washed my hair and it was 9:10. He wanted to read a chapter from our book but I told him no because it was my bedtime since I get up at 4 a.m. We had family prayer, our individual prayers, and went to bed. I washed the sheets today. I love going to bed with extra clean sheets.
never let me throw these away.
I had him picked out for Addy.
