"Helping the Poor and Distressed"
President Dallin H. Oaks
First Counselor in the First Presidency
My subject today concerns what The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its members give and do for the poor and distressed. I will also speak of similar giving by other good people. Giving to those in need is a principle in all Abrahamic religions and in others as well.

Up at 5:50. James went to work at Bartel's. Deven Crane helps him today. The mechanic he called never showed up. I left for the temple at 9:30. I stopped at the church to pick up Ruth Wallace and then we drove on to Dollar General where Sue Hubble was waiting for us. Catherine Halcomb isn't coming today. She said she was just too busy.

The first person Sue and I saw when we entered the upstairs of the temple was Pierce. He had his head down but he lifted it up looked at us and smiled. When I got into the dressing room I was greeted by two friends, Donna Lundgren and Jani Huso Johnson.

When we got into the endowment room I looked around and realized there were nine people in our ward in this session: Maxine Thompson, Debra Martin, Donna & Owen Peeler, Chuck & Kathy Crane, Ruth, Sue, and I.

On the way home we put in our Sonic order. Ruth gave me $5 for her order and $5 for gas. We all ordered chicken slingers. I also ordered one for James and Sue ordered one for her dinner. She likes them as much as I do.

Some things I learned about Sue and Ruth today. Sue is going to Silver City, New Mexico on Thursday. She has two sisters that live there, one is her twin sister who is mentally handicapped. Her other sister, who is 61 takes care of her twin. Her sister is a barrel racer and has some big rodeo to go to so Sue is going down to stay with her other sister.

When Ruth found out I had rheumatoid arthritis she said that the reason her family moved to Arizona was because her mother had rheumatoid arthritis. She said her feet were so misshapen she had to order specially made shoes. Ruth also said who is her husband is struggling with his health. I do enjoy my time with these sisters but I must say, I missed Catherine. I do love temple days!

I told James I had a chicken Slinger sandwich for him. It just so happened it was right when he was bringing a load of dirt from Barbara's. He came in to get it and told me thank you, he hadn't had any lunch. It was almost 2:30.

I kept walking until I had over 12,000 steps. I'm back! I also finished last Wednesday's blogpost. I hate to be this far behind and it seems to happen more than I like.

We had chicken tacos for dinner again. Afterwards I talked to Stacy about coming down with Dad next Wednesday and while he has his meeting in Glendale, he could drop me off at her house and we could go to the temple. She liked that idea except for the fact that she really isn't a morning person.

I studied Come Follow Me with kristenwalkersmith and posted a picture of what I thought was an old picture of Joshua and Evan but turned out to be a picture of Joshua and Max. I forgot how much they looked alike when they were younger.

Watched "A Jolly Good Christmas" starring Will Kemp. Why in the world did they take someone from England, and make him a New Yorker without his English accent. The story was set in London but Will did not have his usual English accent and I was a little put off. So was Kim because I talked to her about it.

"Focus on the Temple"
President Russell M. Nelson
President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
I promise that increased time in the temple will bless your life in ways nothing else can.

James had some work to do at Barbara's this morning. Since my infusion is not until 2:15, we left the house at 10 for the valley.
We mailed Barbara Klug's birthday card and made a Sonic run. We go the Globe way because I think I am dropping James off at Peeler's in Globe. As we are driving along James says, to me, "I think I am going to go ahead and go to Mesa with you." I am very happy but I'm wondering why he waited to tell me until after we had made the choice to go the Globe way.

It was a little after one when we arrived in Mesa so we decided to go to Costco before my appointment. We looked for the chips Sheri suggested we get, lime and jalapeno, but could not find them. I got 6 more blankets to add to my collection. I just need one more for the Texas bunch. James got some supplements and we spent $190.

James drops me off at AARA and he goes to visit his mom and Dawn. I am so excited that masks are no longer necessary. Frances and Ang both have masks on in spite of this. They run the infusion center.

I get out before James gets back so I begin walking south on Country Club/Arizona Avenue. James picks me up and we drive to Cheesecake Factory at the Chandler mall. We have two gift cards given to us by Darrel & Trina to use at Cheesecake Factory.

James orders stuffed mushrooms and salmon. I order the beet, arugula, avocado salad and a piece of cheesecake with berries.
Before our meals come we are given a basket of bread with sourdough and molasses bread. James eats most of it after I have a couple of pieces of sourdough. I guess he was hungry and hadn't eaten since breakfast.

When our food comes I am a little disappointed. My salad is quite small and there are very few berries on the cheesecake. As I eat the cheesecake it is not creamy like I like it. The flavor is fine, but not the texture. I love the strawberry cheesecake at Olive Garden. It is my absolute favorite. Sorry Cheesecake Factory.

This salad was delicious, just small.
I did not get a photo of the cheesecake or
breadbasket.

We really wanted crab bites but they have been discontinued.
When we left, we immediately got on the 101 North. Yes, we are going home the Payson way. Or as James says, the "long" way.
Before Payson I drink water, chew gum, sleep, and listen to our book with James and the last Hillsdale College Lecture regarding disappearing citizenship in America.

We stop in Payson for gas and a potty break and then it's on up the Rim. After we pass through Heber we pass 7 fire trucks or police cars going in the opposite direction. Don't know what was going on but it must be serious.

When we get home, after unloading the car, James goes out to feed Luna. I begin walking while watching "Dancing with the Stars." Some things that happened tonight on the show. Val has Covid so Allen danced with Gabby. It was Halloween so all of the dancers were dressed in costume. Gleb and Shangela got a perfect score of 40 and Charli and Mark were, for the first time, in second place with 39. The saddest thing is my second favorite dancer, Jordin Sparks, went home. Why isn't Vinnie ever in the bottom two? He is always at the bottom of the leader board. Those who are left in the competition:
Heidi, Charli, Gabby, Shangela, Wayne, Daniel, Trevor, and Vinnie.

James got an email regarding the Glendale Airport job today. They have the go sign. He has a meeting on November 9th at 9 a.m. in Glendale. Wohoo!

Bluey, Peyton and Bingo, Scotlyn out

"Be True to God and His Work"
Elder Quentin L. Cook
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
We all need to seek our own testimony of Jesus Christ, bridle our passions, repent of our sins, and be true to God and His work.

As we walked into the chapel today I noticed Pierce's daughter Aubrey and her family moving in to sit by a woman I did not know. I am assuming this is Pierce's new wife Susan. I tried to introduce myself later after sacrament meeting but she was talking to someone else and I needed to get some names to take to the temple from Maxine, so I left. She is very attractive, but she doesn't look like she goes with Pierce in my humble opinion. That is probably because I still picture him with Barbara.

Sue H. came in with her two little granddaughters Kaitlyn and Sky who are 5 and 3. After sacrament meeting I went over to help Sue take them to Primary. They have only been one time before but they went right in as happy as they could be. It's probably because they go to preschool.

Katie Hahn and Paula Johnson were the speakers in sacrament meeting today. Katie is married but her husband doesn't come to church. Paula is single.
Katie Hahn - "Seeing More of Jesus Christ in Our Lives" by Sister Browning. Our door should be open and our attention directed towards God's prophet on earth. Our Savior's love for us and His teachings and laws are daily resources to be a "light" unto us. As we seek for the blessings of the Spirit we will see things as they really are and really will be. Tools to improve our spiritual vision: scriptures, conference talks, prayer, the temple. The Savior is our light and our compass. We need to see our lives through Him.

We sang "I Am A Child of God."

Paula Johnson - "Beauty for Ashes: The Healing Path of Forgiveness." Sister Kristin M. Yee. The story of Abigail, David, and Nabal. Forgiveness is for us. We need to forgive all men. The Savior will help us. "Over the years and in my efforts to find peace and healing on the path of forgiveness, I came to realize in a profound way that the same Son of God who atoned for my sins is the same Redeemer who will also save those who have deeply hurt me. I could not truly believe the first truth without believing the second."

Since this is the 5th Sunday the second hour was presented by the bishopric.
Pierce Goodman - Elder Bednar's talk, "Put On Thy Strength, O Zion." In this talk Elder Bednar discusses the parable of the Rich Ruler. A parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels. In the parable the guests invited to the wedding didn't come. Those in the street were invited and a garment was provided for each guest as was customary for a wedding. It was a "garment of royalty." One of the guests did not have a garment. He was cast into outer darkness for disobedience and rebellion. "Many are called but few are chosen." Wherefore, all do not have on the wedding garment or converting faith and divine grace. DC 121:34-35. Our hearts and desires are what prepare us to attend the wedding feast. Strengthen our covenant connection with the Lord.

Steve Allen - President Nelson came to Show Low in 2015. (It must have been when we were in Chandler getting our house ready to sell, because we do not remember him being here.) Steve was in the front row and got to shake his hand. President Nelson shared a vision he had of the young people of the Church. The people of the world began to realize that our Church had the most truth. He felt the young people in the Church would be the ones to accept these large groups of people into the Church. What is our responsibility to teach the gospel in our home to prepare these young people for their future destiny and the destiny of the Church?

Bishop Hunsaker -  Bishop says he has a copy of the new "For the Strength of Youth" pamphlet for all of us. We forgot to get ours and I want one. "The media can be a thief in our home. Don't let it be. Spend time in the temple. Replace the negative in our lives with things of the Spirit. There is division in the world. Don't let there be division in our ward. Focus on good. Work out out differences. Pray for inspiration on how to usher in the Savior at His Second Coming.

Video of President Nelson's conference address on abuse and telling the youth that their greatest strength come from the Lord.

I am going to the temple with Sue Hubble on Tuesday. Catherine isn't sure if she can come. Ruth Wallace may also come. I got three names from Maxine.

We had chicken tacos for lunch and then it was rest time.
James and Dave Westbrook went to visit Anthony and to take him the sacrament. He says his back is so bad he has not been able to come to church for months. James says the visit was a little strange because all Anthony wanted to talk about was the money he's going to get because of the LeJeune federal lawsuit. He thinks he is going to get millions of dollars and he wants James to build him a house.
We shall see. Dave says money doesn't mean anything to him. To guys on opposite sides of the issue and James is right in the middle.

I talked to my cousin Rita about Aunt Gene today. Rita says her mom wants to come home, but she doesn't see how she can. She said she had lived a good life and if 94 1/2 years old. It sounds she thinks her mom isn't going to make it.

I did an indexing review project this evening and was able to do 58 names. It was actually an enjoyable project because the names were typed and I could actually read them.

James and I watched the newest Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Christmas movie, "Christmas Bedtime Stories."
