Up at 5:30. Whoops! James wants to have scriptures early so he can go to work at the Crane's. We do and he does.

I didn't think I would be able to get my steps today, but I did, with a little help from James (about 1,000 steps).

James started reading the book, "Time Travelers Masquerade".
I started, "A Hopeful Proposal."

James and I made a trip to town today. We mailed Stacy & Paul's anniversary card (their's is the first, but from now on I will be sending all my kids a card on their anniversary), Jared Ammon's birthday card and Lola's birthday card.

While I was shopping at Walmart James went to Home Depot. I wanted to get the 'flower balls' I got in November. I'm not even sure what kind of flowers they were. James said they didn't have any so he didn't get anything. While he was at Home Depot he helped Donna Beckham get some lumber and he saw the entire Tesarek family: Travis, Michelle, Resten, and Chimi. They bought an older home in downtown Vernon and they are fixing it up for an airbnb.

For once in my life, I only bought what was on my list. I waited outside for James for quite awhile before moving over to the last row in the parking lot, closest to Home Depot. I call him and tell him I've been waiting for a long time. From Home Depot James had gone to Circle K to get a drink and some gas. He couldn't make his credit card work and that was what was taking so long. He finally left without gas or a drink to pick me up. We ended up going to Splash & Dash and got gas for $3.08 with my debit card. Circle K gas with my discount was $3.18.

The last thing we did before going home was to go to the drive-thru at the Show Low post office and mail our three cards. One the way home we listened to James's book, which I have already listened to, "A Time Traveler's Masquerade."

We had no mail. James wanted to go out to work again. I fixed him some tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich.

James carried in a few of the heavier things, and I did the rest so he could go back to work.

While James is at the Crane's, I enjoy my kitties, the weather, and blogging about the Brown's talks in sacrament meeting.

James damaged the plate under his Cat and is frustrated about getting it fixed.

I try to fast 12 hours everyday, from 6 at night until 6 in the morning.

I read about the King Follett Sermon in the book, "Looking Unto Christ in Every Thought."

Kim delivered sugar cookies to Lola today for her birthday. She gave her a box with 18 rather large sugar cookie. Kim knocked on the door but no one answered even though both cars were home. Finally Trina came to the door and explained that they were all in the backyard. The wind blew Darrel's Traeger grill into the pool, scattering charcoal everywhere and they were all helping to get it out.

As we focus our lives on Jesus Christ, we will find our way home, enduring to the end and rejoicing to the end."

"Follow Him"

Up at 4:13. The bishop yesterday laid forth for us a plan of action regarding Vernon Days and the "Hear Him" initiative.

I listened to President Nelson's talk on confidence before the Lord and was touched by all that he said about charity and virtue, and preparing for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

My left knee is starting to hurt. I put heat rub on it. I still have a lot of walking to do today. I am praying that Heavenly Father will carry me until I can get my should x-rays and begin my cortisone shot treatments.

I put two pork roasts on to cook before I realized that Stacy, Paul, and Joshua are not coming. Now James and I have a ton of roast pork to eat. I put about half in the freezer. I used Sheri's recipe where she puts them in a crockpot with some seasoning and then pours a 2 liter of Coke over them.

I finished the book, "Caught in the Middle" and started a new one called, "A Hopeful Proposal" by Samantha Hastings.

James worked at Crane's this morning and Hipps' this afternoon and evening. I went to the post office this afternoon because James was too busy getting stuff together for Darryl Johnson's claim against our insurance. Here is what I had at the post office: two journals, a black pair of sandals, a puzzle, and my WaterFly cross body bag.

My knee isn't bending but I still got my 12,000 steps. Tom slept all day in the house. He finally wanted out at 7:30 this evening.

James is afraid it might rain so he is at Crane's picking up tools.
Mailed Willis' card today. Peyton MacArthur had an All-Star game this evening so they didn't go to Boone's game.

Here is the real Jared Ammon story:
His girlfriend Elle was gone for a week. He started drinking and missed work so he got fired. Now he says he's going to lose his car. Stacy told him to call and see if he can get a payment deferred. I think he did. He sold his laptop to pay his car insurance. He still owes us $1,050, so we cannot loan him any money.
I am writing this on July 9th, the day after his birthday. Stacy says he is in a good place right now.

Up at 4:45, prayer first, after warming up with the heating pad, my sciatic nerve. James and I had prayer, Book of Mormon, and "Come Follow Me" before church this morning. We took a selfie before leaving for church:

Just a couple of old people out to have
some fun.

Sister Jones's talk that Sheri suggested we study this week has one of my favorite quotes:
"If the love we feel for the Savior and what He did for us is greater than the energy we give to weakness, self-doubts, or bad habits, then He will help us overcome the things which cause suffering in our lives. He saves us from ourselves."

When I was talking to Kim about her she reminded me that she saw her at the Gilbert temple.

Today's sacrament meeting went something like this:
Youth Speaker - Devin Jameson, Jr. (Buddy)
Buddy talked about baptism as found in "For the Strength of Youth".
At baptism we take upon us the name of Christ. Please don't take His name in vein. 2 Nephi 31:20 - "Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life."
"Anytime you help anyone to come unto Christ, either on this side or the other side of the veil, you are helping to gather Israel." This is a quote by President Nelson but I'm not sure I quoted it exactly right.
D&C 58:26 -28: "For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward."
"Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;" "For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their reward." * I what I am doing helping me feel joy?
President Hinckley - "Everything will work out."
"Wherefore be not weary in well-doing for out of small things proceedeth that which is great."  * The Lord can make the willing able but no the able willing."

Judy Hunter - Vernon is growing. The basis for my message is from Elder Andersen's talk, "The Triumph of Hope" in the OGC 2024.
*Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. *Hope - a priceless endowment from God. A gift given to us by God. *Charity - the pure love of Christ. Do we reflect the Savior in our life? These are powerful gifts to strive for. Satan's tools are fear and hatred. * Hope is a living gift, a gift that grows as we increase our faith in Jesus Christ. Our hope for Eternal Life. * Hope of eternal life is assured through the grace of Christ and our own choices. Hope brightens the darkened world, and we see our glorious future. * Hope comes from God. * Comforter - the Holy Ghost brings faith, hope, and peace not as the world giveth. * Moroni 7:41 - "And what is it that ye shall hope for? Behold I say unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ and the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal, and this because of your faith in him according to the promise." * The temple is a house of hope where we can feel the Spirit of God.

Jase Penrod - Three kids since 2021. Why Vernon? 1.) I loved here before. I love nature and the weather. 2.) Get out of the city. Our kids were our main concern. 3.) God wanted us to move here. * RAR - "Right Before Our Eyes" * Right before our eyes, let's consider the one and how the Lord is in the details of our lives. We prayed about moving. We had an overwhelming that we would know what to do. We looked at a house and my wife said: "This really feels like home."

Loretta and Randy Willis visited our ward today. We went to school with both of them and they both lived in Show Low during high school. I realized that Randy is Bishop Hunsaker's first cousin, their mom's were sisters.

Cheryl Sedig was off of her crutches today. She does still wear a boot, but not crutches!

Since this is the 5th Sunday, the bishopric is in charge of the 2nd hour. We stayed in the chapel. First Cope Reynolds had us get out our phones to make sure that our addresses were correct on Tools. * Next Bishop Hunsaker spoke to us about carrying forth the "Hear Him" initiative to include Vernon Days on August 2nd. He spoke from the heart and his concern for the people of Vernon. He said several times that he needs our help and support. He wants Vernon Days to be a celebration that the entire family can enjoy. Later I texted his wife Alicia and told her I felt the Spirit when the Bishop spoke and that we would support him anyway we could.

The last speaker was Brother Lauritzen. He put in a plug for the marriage & parenting class he will be teaching beginning on August 3rd.

For lunch I had a shake, celery, peanut butter, and a cheese stick. James had a light snack too. I put some chicken in to marinate for grilling later.

I rested on the recliner in the family room while Tom and James rested on the bed in the bedroom. James got up to water trees and Tom came in and joined me on the recliner.

Here are some things I did this afternoon: 1) Studied from 'The Infinite Atonement', 2) James and I both wrote in a sympathy card for the Willis family, Reed & Janis's kids. 3) Listened to 'Grace Works' on Deseret Book Plus 4) Read from "Looking Unto Christ in Every Thought" 5) Listened to part of "Follow Him." 6) Blogged June 18th & 19th.

James made this best grilled chicken I have ever eaten. I gave him the meat thermometer and told him when it hit 145 degrees to take the chicken off the grill. We let it sit for about 10 minutes before we ate it with our salad and corn. It was delicious! The marinade I used has garlic, honey, lime juice, and soy sauce as the main ingredients.

I responded to A.S.K. ( study of conference talks with Addy & Sheri).  We had two talks this week: Elder Rasband's recent talk, "Right Before Our Eyes" and Sister Yee's talk, "Beauty for Ashes: The Healing Path of Forgiveness" from the October 2022 General Conference. * I discussed what I think it means to give the Lord equal time, and I talked about the story of Abigail from 1 Samuel 25 regarding forgiveness.

I talked to R.E.J. about what it means to "bury our weapons of rebellion." I talked to Patsy Tedder about something we could do together. She suggested a movie but I was thinking more of going to the temple. If we do a movie, I want it to be one I have recorded here at home.

James and I went outside and enjoyed the sunset. Tom came to join us. James asked me if I wanted to go out and look for baby elk. I had to turn him down because I am so far behind on my blog and Sunday is really the very best day to do some catching up.

Stacy texted and said they wouldn't be coming up. The reason is that Joshua didn't get off work and she does not want to leave him there with Alana in town.

James ordered a solar generator online this evening.

I got up at 4:00 and stayed busy all day long. No matter what time I get up, I have gotten into the habit of praying first, which I did this morning.

James left early for the Crane's. Brother Chris Pronger and Brother Collin DeWitt are coming to help frame.

I am sitting at my des, the window is open and a cool breeze is causing to sigh with joy. Corny, I know, but it's true.

James heard cats fighting early this morning. Sure enough, Harry is back and Sammy is hiding under the couch.

While walking today I listened to "Grace Works" by Brother Robert Millett. I finished listening to "The Peacegiver." The story of Abigail is 1 Samuel 25 is my favorite scripture story.

Although Darrel & Trina's family are at the Case beach vacation in California, Rowan still answered the scripture question. I was impressed.

James and I attended a Primary activity this morning which started at 10 a.m. He was working at Crane's and he and Collin said they would come, that they would just be a little late.

There are several activities that the children take turns rotating to. The Primary leaders asked for help from grandparents in the ward and that is why we are here. Lynn Wallace, the Primary secretary, asked us all to bring a younger picture of ourselves. I brought our wedding picture because it was last minute and I didn't want to get out all of the old photo albums.  Before starting the activities a picture of a younger leader or grandparent was flashed on the TV screen and we had to guess who it was. Once it was established who the person was, they told what they liked to do as a kid. Leaders and grandparents who attended: Bob & Kristine Hipps, (Bob had a post-it stuck to his forehead that said, 'Captain Awesome'), Shanna Penrod, Bonnie M. (nannie for the Jensen boys), Steven Rosen, Lynn Wallace, Janette Jameson, Sister Gassaway, Sister Putz, Teresa Smith,Sandra Wilhelm,  Brother Bowen, Stefani Hunsaker, Collin DeWitt (for a short time), and James and I. James and Collin missed the pictures and kid stories.

My favorite picture was of Steven Rosen who is now totally blonde. In his photo he had a head full of long, dark, curly, should link locks. It looked like he had a woman's wig on.

When it was my turn to tell about what I liked as a kid this is what I said: I lived in Phoenix when I was young on a dead end street near a ditch bank with lots of cottonwood trees. Sometimes the cottonwood trees blew white balls that looked like cotton. Other times caterpillars would come crawling off of them and would swarm our road. The entire neighborhood would get together on Friday nights and would play hide & go seek or cops and robbers. I then turned to Collin and said, "And brother DeWitt lived on the same street, but he was in the newer block on the other side of a crossroad. He never played with us. A few minutes later Collin got up and left. I hope I didn't offend him.

Sandra Wilhelm and I were stationed at the rock painting table, the most fun activity. She grew up in Eagar and her favorite holiday is the 4th of July. Once the kids got their paint and their rocks they didn't need much help with the activity. Sandra and I decided we wanted to paint a rock. I came up with the idea to do a flag. I think hers turn out better than mine but I didn't get a picture of hers so you can't compare. Here is mine:

Here are some pictures of some of the other activities:

When James and I returned home we had some lunch and then both of us took naps. Tom is still asleep.

I started cleaning upstairs in preparation for Stacy, Paul and Joshua's visit on Monday. The sheets do not need to be changed on any of the beds. I do need to vacuum, dust, and clean bathrooms. I got a good start and will finish Monday morning.

James and I made a trip to town this afternoon. We went to the dump, mailed Max's birthday card, and James got some gas for his Cat. When we got home he went back to work at the Crane's.

I blog, walk, and clean out two ice chests. Tom was inside all day long.

I got up at 4:54. If feels so good to feel good! Thank goodness for Prednisone. After prayer, Book of Mormon, and "Come Follow Me", James went to work at the Cranes' pump house. He has guys coming to help frame tomorrow, Collin DeWitt, who is the Crane's ministering brother, Chris Pronger, and Paul Peeler.

When James came home for lunch I already had something prepared. I fixed a ham, cabbage, and onion dish. He came in to the bedroom and said, "Thank you for the nice lunch." I was listening to a webinar, "Building Wealth Together" that Stacy had asked me to listen to. Stacy's friend, Leland, did the webinar. He mentioned her and used her as an example of someone who has made money selling notes. Now I have to decide if I am going to help her with her business. I need to pray about it before I talk to her.

James took a nap with Tom, the it was back to work unto about 3:45.

Tom is spoiled

James took a shower and we left for the Grombach's at 4:30. We are going to the Hon-Dah Casino for crabby Friday. It's all you can eat crab and James loves crab.

While driving to the casino I got a text from Jared Ammon. This is what it said: "I want to move up and help out. I'm not happy in Phoenix." My response: We are out to dinner with friends. I will text you tomorrow. I am sorry you are not happy."

Janna and I had a nice visit about her mom on the way to the casino. I now have some ideas as to what I can do to serve her better as her ministering sister.

Willy signed us in at the Indian Pine restaurant. They said the wait would be about 25 minutes. It was more like an hour and 25 minutes.

The buffet offers prime rib, shrimp, crab, fish, veggie casserole, salad and clam chowder. I got prime rib and it was ok. It was the end of the rib and was a little tough. My salad was good because of the dried cranberries I put on it. Willy loved the clam chowder. James said the crab was cold and rubbery. Janna said it is better if you come in the winter when it's not so crowded. I would also leave at 4 instead of 4:30 so we could be there when the restaurant opens, if we ever go back.

On the way home we took the short cut by the Wallace's and Janna & Willy showed us where Bridgett Jordan's camp facilities are. She has named her place CTR Camp. She had a nice lodge but we didn't go inside because it looked like people were camped there. Later Bridgett told me we should have come in because she was there and she would have shown us around.

After saying goodbye and taking the Grombach's home, whom we love by the way, James stopped at Bob Hipps' to borrow a nail gun for tomorrow. We offered to pay for the Grombach's dinner but they would not let us. Our meal, after a $5 tip was $61.

When we got home I blogged and James walked. Tom was in all night.
