Book of Mormon
Moroni 10:8-34
Come Follow Me
Revelation 21-22
October General Conference
"Think Celestial"! by President Russell M. Nelson

We finished both the Book of Mormon and the New Testament today and are ready to begin an in-depth study of the Book of Mormon.

We sat in the back during sacrament meeting instead of our customary second row. It's where Sheri, Ben, Cayli, and Evan wanted to sit and we wanted to be with them.

Members of the Jameson family were the speakers in sacrament meeting today.

Buddy (Deven) Jameson was the first speaker. He is a deacon in the ward and always passes the sacrament. His talk was so humble and sweet. He shared a story from the Friend, "Fishing for the True Meaning of Christmas."

Sister Janette Jameson - A higher and holier way was taught by Jesus. What are we becoming? Are we developing the attributes of Christ, especially charity, a greater love for others? Concentration camp - Wild Bill Cody - Had great compassion for others. He had been in the camp for six years  with no physical or mental deterior ation likes those around him. Before entering the concentration camp all of the six members of his family were shot and killed. He said he could hate the soldiers who did this or he could change his attitude. He said he decided that he was going to love every person he met. This is what gave him his quality of life. This story is in a book by George Ritchie.
We need to lose ourselves to find Christ. Matthew 16:25
We must be slow to anger or avoid it. We should develop the art of listening. Look into people's eyes when they are speaking or you are speaking to them. We should be more anxious to listen than to talk.
Listen to the Lord. Listen to others. Unless you listen, people are diminished in your presence. Our of small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Listening is love. Sister Jameson closed her talk by quoting the words from the hymn "More Holiness Give me."

Kathy Crane, Alicia & Stefani Hunsaker sang - " Oh Hush Thee My Baby"

Abigail Jameson spoke instead of Brother Jameson as he had to work. Abigail is 16 or 17 and is a cute, spiritual girl.
Her talk was based on Elder Bednar's October 2020 conference address, "We Will Prove Them Herewith."
Prepare and press forward with a steadfastness in Christ.
Preparation equals confidence. Without spiritual preparation temporal preparation doesn't mean very much. D&C 88:119.
Be Prepared!
72 hour kits

The Closing song was "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" and Sean Hunsaker gave the closing prayer. He gives the best prayers!

Sheri and company left after sacrament meeting although James tried to convince her to stay. The bishop conducted the meeting and the emphasis was on the new year of "Come Follow Me." New manuals were handed out. We already have one.

We watched part of a talk President Nelson gave in 2018 after becoming the Prophet. In this talk he says: "The adversary is increasing his attacks. The Lord's counter strategy to Satan is the "Come Follow Me" program." Here are some more notes:
Increase you faith by balancing learning in the home and at church.
Make your home a sanctuary of faith
I bless you with increased faith in Him
Notes from the class in general:
Teaching doesn't necessarily mean giving new information, but reinforcing what they have learned at home.
What has the Holy Ghost taught me this week?
What do you know is true?
Another talk by President Nelson, "Embrace the Future with Faith", October 2020:
Principles of Preparedness as displayed by Captain Moroni in the Book of Mormon:
1. Create places of security - homes, stakes, temple
2. Prepare you mind to be faithful to God
3. Never Stop Preparing
   * Food, water, financial resources
   * Be steadfast and immovable in you testimony of Jesus Christ
   * Seek learning by study and faith
   * The Book of Mormon is our Latter-day Survival Guide
   * Seek Revelation and gifts of the Spirit
   * Don't become complacent
   * Embrace the future with faith
   * Never stop preparing!!

Whew! That was alot of notes! I do want to remember the things I learned today and especially how I felt. I felt the Spirit in both of these amazing meetings.

When we returned to the house, Rowan was ready to head home. I think he's having a party at his house tonight that he didn't want to miss. We said our goodbyes:

He's got the goods and
ready to go.
Goodbye Rowan. We will miss you.

Sheri put a pork roast in the crockpot early this morning. It smelled delicious when we got home from church, but it's not ready to eat yet. She also started some rolls. She and Cayli made some cookies using M&M's but they forgot to add extra flour for the high altitude so they were flat like my snickerdoodles I made for Christmas.

The afternoon was spent with Max watching football and some of the guys playing Hearts. It's hard to keep the Sabbath like we normally do when you have company.
These three needed one more to
play Hearts. They asked Grandpa
and he couldn't turn them down.

Grandpa one. I wonder if they are glad they
asked him to play.

This evening Sheri had a nice "spread" of food:
BBQ pork roast, she added Devil's Spit sauce which made it a little hot like her boys like it. This is the first time Evan actually came down and ate during dinner. The pork roast was so good as a sandwich on the big rolls Sheri made. She also made pot stickers, which were a big hit, especially with Cayli. She cooked wings in the air fryer and they were crispy and delicious. Ben especially loved them. There were chips and cookies. I offered to make a veggie but Sheri said no. James made a cherry-apple crisp, and I made my pretzel, Rollo, pecan turtles. Max and Michael loved them. I also had dark chocolate Rollos which weren't as popular. I think James will eat them later though.

Sheri and I worked on the puzzle and watched "A Christmas Hero" before going to bed quite early.

James stayed up and did fireworks with the boys. Michael, Joe, and Max played their guitars and sang. I think James really enjoyed being with his grandsons. He sent me a video of the fireworks which looked like they had a blast. Ian was in the middle of the fireworks too.  Happy New Year!

Happy 50th Kim!
Kim celebrated her birthday Saturday with Brian. They went to Taco Boys where Jared Ammon works for dinner. Afterwards they went to see the lights at the temple and the nativity displays across the street. Brian got Kim a mini-cheesecake for her birthday cake.

"We Are His Children" by Elder Christophe G. Giraud-Carrier

Sheri and I left for Walmart at 7 am. Early morning is the best time to go shopping at our particular Walmart.

When Sheri got home she ran 6.5 miles and fixed a big breakfast. Where does she get her energy?

Max, Michael, and Joe helped James on the stable and Rowan stacked wood today. Ben was going to help but he was nauseous.

Sheri and I worked on the Disney puzzle that Kim got me for Christmas. The border was very difficult and there are two pieces missing.

Sheri made ham, rolls and scalloped potatoes for dinner. James had some of the potatoes.

Michael had four steaks that he bought. He offered to fix one for James and one for me.  I told him I had already eaten, I had some baked ziti, but James would probably like one. He made steak and mashed potatoes. Michael loves to cook and would like to be a personal chef. I told him he could be mine anytime.

James made another apple crisp and this one disappeared as quickly as the one last night. He ended up cleaning the kitchen. (My Hero!) I was in the bedroom because I didn't want to be around all of the food.

Sheri and the kids made Smore's, roasting the marshmallows in the fireplace.

My Deseret Bookshelf app is still down. James and I were desperate to listen to something while we were walking so I downloaded Google Play and opened a book called, "Breaking the Rules."
The narrator is an AI. It started out okay but certainly not great.

Extra vehicles at our house.

"Love is Spoken Here" by Elder Gerrit W. Gong

I wrote down my personal goals for 2024 in my prayer journal. Just for record keeping sake I will also write them here:
1.  Lose weight and maintain a more healthy lifestyle.
2. Organize my home.
3. Work on family history research and attend the temple at least 2x a month.
4. Be more frugal and stay on my budget.
5. Prepare our will and organize "death" papers.
6. Prepare for a mission.
7. No contention, only joy with James.
8. Bear testimony of the Book of Mormon to my family.
9. Prepare for the unexpected by storing food and supplies.
10. Go to Disneyland with Lola, Ruby and  Charlie.
11. Decide with Addy if we are going to go to Europe.
12. Go with James to the temple once a month.

I have a lot of work to do!

Evan and Rowan took Rowan's truck to the park to play basketball. When they returned Evan wasn't feeling well so he laid down for a nap.

Things about Evan: He's a good basketball 3-point shooter, he is an artist, he is quiet and obedient, he loves hot Doritos and lemonade, he is sensitive and sweet. I love him!

Things about Rowan: He is kind and thoughtful, he is a hard-worker and adventurous, he asks thoughtful questions.

It was another sunny day. Michael asked Rowan, Evan, and Joe if they would help grandpa outside and they did. I think Michael has a lot of influence. His name, Michael, means "like God." He and Joe helped with the stable and James said he got more done in a couple of hours today than he did the last two days working by himself.
Rowan and Evan stacked wood on the porch for the fireplace.

One of the things Rowan asked me to get him was some Lucky Charms. I forgot yesterday when I went to Walmart. I knew it was a long shot but I went to Dollar General to see if I could find some there. I hit the jackpot! Not only did they have them but the box was the perfect size, small and compact. I was so pleased. As a bonus for having to wait I also bought some Sour Patch candy for Rowan. I'm know he loves them.

I spent 3 hours in the kitchen this afternoon and evening making baked ziti, eating baked ziti, and cleaning up after baked ziti. Thank goodness James helped me do the dishes.

Michael asked if it would be all right for he and Joe to eat with us. I said it would be as my baked ziti recipe makes a big batch. He said something about not liking Prego sauce and I told him that was what I was using. He was embarrassed. He ate it anyway. I looked up a comparison of marinara sauces and Prego has the most sugar so I won't be buying it anymore.

This evening just as we were finishing up cleaning the kitchen Ben and Cayli arrived in Ben's car. He has a Nissan Altima. He brought his TV with him. It probably takes up the entire backseat!

Soon Sheri, Ian, Max, Ollie and Ziggie drove up and unloaded. We are full here with 11 people.

James used some of the apples we got from the Wilhelm's and made an apple crisp using my recipe. It was a huge hit. Everyone loved it and it disappeared before it had a chance to cool.

One of my ward members and friends on Facebook, Lorraine Vaught was telling a story about someone complaining at the post office this morning about the church next door cutting down their trees. Lorraine described this person as a Karen. I hate that the name Karen has a negative connotation and I told her so in a non-combative way. She apologized and said we should choose another name. I agreed and suggested, "Harpy." She liked it.

Ziggie and Ollie are excited to be here and were sniffing the place down. Dogs are so funny.

Revelation 22:18-19 Do these verses mean that there cannot be any additional scripture besides the Bible?  No!
October General Conference
"The Savior's Healing Power upon the Isles of the Sea" Elder J. Kimo Esplin

Another clear, cold day. My friend Kerri Halcomb came by this morning to bring me a Christmas gift and card.

That's my crystal paperweight behind the
ornament.

Kerri and I visited a few minutes. When she left I opened the gift and read my card. I love the ornament and the card was sweet, expressing gratitude for our friendship. I sat down and wrote her a card.
Stacy got to meet Kerri.

This morning in Inklings Emily and Rio talked about humility. The talk we are studying is "Humble to Accept and Follow" by Joni L. Koch. We also studied 2 Chronicles 2 and Hezekiah's Tunnel in the Bible Dictionary. Here are some notes that I took:
Phrase: "Leave this in God's hands and everything will turn out fine."
Affirmation: "I am humble in spirit. I depend on my Heavenly Father's benevolence and the Atonement of my Savior. I trust that having the humility to follow Them and to make and keep covenants will help me become perfected in Christ."
2 Chronicles 31:20 - And thus did Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and wrought that which was good and right and truth before the LORD his God.
Hezekiah petitions the Lord and the answer comes through the Prophet.
Hezekiah goes to the Lord with everything!
He went to the Lord in building the underground tunnel too.
Humility is dependence upon God.
I have heard thy prayers, thus saith the Lord.
There is a strength that comes with humility.
Submission, surrender, humility, modesty, reverence, yield, giving way to God.
Yield signs in Fiji say "Give way."
Why does receiving revelation have to be so hard? Emily asks God this question.
Personal revelation time for Emily is 4-6 a.m.
The Spirit to Emily: "You are not praying hard enough."
Emily: "The Spirit is the boss of me."

I also listened to "Unshaken Saints" and Richard Draper on "Follow Him." I am reading Dr. Draper's book, "Opening the Seven Seals."

We said goodbye to Stacy, Paul, Joshua, Alayna, Sophie, Shipley, and Vader.

Goodbye to the Gonzo's

Evan and Rowan went on a Razr ride this afternoon just a little before Michael and Joe arrived. We were on our way in to town so we told Michael to watch out for them.

The first thing we did in town was mail Kim's birthday card. She is turning 50 on the 31st.

One of the reasons we are coming into town is to get some food for Rowan. Darrel sent me $50.

Rowan said he really likes baked ziti so I decided I would make it tomorrow night. As I was shopping for marinara sauce I dropped a bottle on the floor. The glass did not shatter but the lid came off and sauce went all over the floor and on my shoe, sock, and the bottom of my left pant leg. A woman in the aisle told me to just leave it alone. She also gave me a tissue to clean the sauce off of me. I told a worker what I had done and he called the cleaning crew. I fully intended to pay for the broken bottle but forgot when I got to the register. I will pay next time.

Before going home James and I texted Rowan and Evan and asked them what they wanted from Wendy's. Actually I gave them a choice and they chose Wendy's.  Evan asked for ten chicken nuggets and an order of fries. Rowan wanted a baconator and fries. I ordered a Biggie Bag. When we paid for the food we should have checked our order. They got it wrong. Evan got his ten chicken nuggets and fries, and I got my Biggie Bag, but instead of getting a Baconator burger Rowan got Baconator fries (fries with bacon & cheese) and fries. I apologized and gave him my Baconator, Jr. burger. James and I ate the nuggets and the small order of fries. I had three nuggest and James had two.

Joe and Michael brought several guitars with them. Michael just got a new green guitar. They jammed in front of the fireplace.

They are such good musicians. Joe writes
music and words to songs.

The kids played games this evening while James and I walked and watched a movie, "A Fairytale Christmas."

Tom is getting lots of attention from the boys, especially Evan.

Another cloudless, cold day. I miss the clouds!

James fixed ham and eggs for Alayna and Joshua with Paul's leftover ham.

Alayna, Joshua and Evan were waiting for Rowan to get here before they went on their Razr ride.  They thought he was coming up this morning. When I told them he wouldn't be here until this afternoon they decided to go without him.

Snow in the high country!

Yesterday they went on a ride and they were gone so long Stacy and Paul got worried and were going to go look for them it James's truck. About the time they got ready to leave the kids returned. I was at the store and told her I was sure they were okay.

The kids were not gone nearly as long today as they were yesterday on the Razr. After Rowan got here the three of them played some games together. Rowan did go on a Razr ride up into the snow while he was here.

 Notice the size of these
Uno cards. They are
ginormous!
While the kids were playing games Paul was on his computer or fixing dinner and Stacy was watching old Hitchcock movies, such as, Charade, and Girl Friday. Cary Grant is in both of these movies. I wonder if she likes him. I love Audrey Hepburn and Stacy likes Grace Kelly.

Stacy & Ziggie. Where is her bodyguard,
Sophie? She says she doesn't care for
Hallmark movies.

James went over to Sue Hubble's with several others from our ward to help her move. She is my good friend and I am sad to see her go, although I am glad she is only going to Snowflake instead of the valley. We are still going to go to the temple together.

Stacy started a puzzle while she was here. It was a 500 one with Easter Eggs, one that had never been done. She said she wouldn't be here long enough to do a 1,000 piece one. I helped her with it. She has a more "challenging" way of doing puzzles. Frankly, I think it just takes longer. After putting together the edge pieces she does the puzzle row by row. Once when she wasn't looking I filled in some other pieces. When she discovered what I had done she said, "No, No, No, challenge yourself." She took the pieces out. Here is the finished puzzle:
A fun puzzle to do.

Tamara Applegate dropped a set of house plans off to James early this evening. I had her come in and meet Stacy as they are both doing the intermitten fasting diet. Stacy has lost 70 lbs. over the last couple of years and she looks so much more healthy. Tamara has been very successful too, but hasn't been doing it as long.

Paul made dinner again tonight. He has a new stew recipe he got from a Foodnetwork chef, Tyler Florence. It uses red wine and corn and peas. He also made cornbread. The entire meal was delicious.
Thank you Paul. They guys in our family seem to like to cook. We as their wives and family are so lucky!

This evening James and I walked in our room and watched "A Rocky Mountain Christmas" and "Christmas in the Pines", both good movies.

I remember their reception at Trey & LeAnn Bashas'
and how cold it was!

Beautiful sunrise
