"Trust Again"
Elder Gerrit W. Gong
My message today is, whether we are coming home or going home, God is coming to meet us. In Him we can find faith and courage, wisdom and discernment to trust again. Likewise, He asks us to keep the light on for each other, to be more forgiving and less judgmental of ourselves and each other, so His Church can be a place where we feel at home, whether we are coming for the first time or returning.

Kim and Brian decided to wait until tomorrow to come and visit.
Kim says she needed a "down day" after Thanksgiving. I understand that because I kind of needed one too.

James talked me into going to town with him. I had told him I needed to get ready for Kim and Brian to come but when they said they weren't coming until tomorrow I had no reason not to go.
Our first stop was at Empire Cat. James had called ahead and they had a box ready for him to pick up. The FedEx store was right across the street and I wished I had brought the package still sitting on my front porch. No one ever came to pick it up.

We went to Sonic and each of us got a corndog. We then drove to Walmart where James went in and got some juice. Afterwards we went through the Panda drive-thru to get some chow mein so we could have stirfry for dinner.

On the way home from town as we were listening to "The Magic of Starlight" Kacey sent out a text on our family feed with this picture:

Kacey opened a can of worms with this photo. Jared was teased by his siblings and their spouses. I told him he should not bring that jacket when he came to Arizona. Kacey likes it so I guess he will keep it.

James and I watched a new Christmas movie on Netflix today. It's called "A Castle for Christmas" starring Brooke Shields and Carey Ewell from Princess Bride. I liked the movie and the music!

James brought up the Christmas tree but didn't put it up because Brian and Kim are coming up tomorrow to put it up and decorate it. He did hang both of the wreaths.

"The Temple and Your Spiritual Foundation"
Russell M. Nelson
My dear brothers and sisters, these are the latter days. If you and I are to withstand the forthcoming perils and pressures, it is imperative that we each have a firm spiritual foundation built upon the rock of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
So I ask each of you, how firm is your foundation? And what reinforcements to your testimony and understanding of the gospel are needed?
The Temple lies at the center of strengthening our faith and spiritual fortitude because the Savior and His doctrine are the very heart of the temple. Everything taught in the temple, through instruction and through the Spirit, increases our understanding of Jesus Christ. His essential ordinances bind us to Him through sacred priesthood covenants. Then, as we keep our covenants, He endows us with His healing, strengthening power. And oh, how we will need His power in the days ahead.

Today is Thanksgiving day. We left Vernon for Chandler around 7:40. It was 26 degrees when we left. We stopped in Payson at Speedway to get gas because gas is about 30 cents cheaper there. James started the gas pump and then both of us went in to use the bathroom. When I came out James was talking with someone in a Cadillac Escalade, it was Larry Butler someone we had known in Chandler but who grew up in Taylor and now lives in Snowflake.
I knew Larry's first wife Aileen. She passed away a few years ago and Larry is now married to Pam Lucas, another friend from Chandler whose husband died a few years ago. One of Kim's best friends in high school was Pam's daughter, Shawna. It was fun to see Larry but we did not wait to see Pam and now I wish we had.

It was a beautiful sunshiny 70 degree day when we arrived at Sheri's at 11 o'clock. Sheri, Ian, and Evan were at home. The other boys, Max and Evan, were gone playing tag football with Michael and some other friends. Sheri, Addy, Michael, Ben, and Joe ran in the Turkey Trot this morning. It's become a tradition for them. Normally Trina would be there too. The Turkey Trot is six and a half miles long.

Sheri said she ran the fastest mile she has run since
high school, 8.53 minutes. She says Addy is really fast
but Michael was determined to run faster because he
didn't want her to beat him.

Looks like Michael and Joshua but
I don't know who the other two are.

I thought we were eating at 12-1 but Sheri says 2. That's fine. I would rather be early than late, especially since I have to cook my sweet potato casserole and the corn. James and I helped Sheri make mashed potatoes. James also set up the table outside and we both cleaned up the chairs and put them around the table. Evan cleaned the bathroom and Sheri said he did a great job. He also picked up doggie doodoo in the backyard.

Ian went to pick up his parents. Betty made the turkey, gravy, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. Meg brought a green bean casserole, Shayna and Alex made chocolate covered strawberries with pretzels and marshmallows that look like little turkeys.

Sheri made mashed potatoes and rolls. She also bought cranberry celebration, key lime pie, caramel apple pie from Pie Snob, pumpkin pie, and made a lemon creme pie with a non-gluten crust for Shayna. Kim made her pumpkin delight dessert for us. How thoughtful!

I brought corn and sweet potato casserole. Alex, Shayna, James, and Sheri and I all loved the sweet potato casserole. Alex made Max taste it and Max said he liked it too. It was such nice weather that most of us ate outside in the back yard. Some of the boys stayed inside so they could watch football on the TV.

Ian got his Christmas present early this year. He loves to sit in the living room area and read or draw. Sheri and his mom bought him a nice reclining chair and a new cabinet for his books and drawing supplies. To say he was pleased would be an understatement. Alex wanted to hid the cabinet and chair until Christmas.  He and Carter took the cabinet downstairs but they could not get the chair down the stairs. Sheri and Kylee from work brought the cabinet back upstairs and set it up in the living room along with the chair. It looks very nice.

We left for home somewhere between 3:30 and 4. We stopped at Speedway in Payson for gas but they were out so we had to get gas in Show Low where it is 30 cents a gallon higher. We listened to "The Magic of Starlight" most of the way home. James did pretty well on the trip but now he is miserable. We got home around 7 and watched a new Christmas movie, "The Nine Lives of Christmas."

My friend Ginger wished me a happy Thanksgiving. She is still in California with her husband taking care of his dad. She said when they get home towards the end of December they will be moving to Alpine. She said she couldn't find a ward in Alpine and was wondering if she would be going to church in Eagar. I texted Sister Elmer, my temple co-ordinator ( I call her my boss), and she said the Alpine ward meets in Luna, New Mexico which is 12 miles away. I told Ginger and I also told her I would go with her the first couple of Sundays. She seemed excited.
