"Jesus Christ: The Caregiver of Our Soul"
Elder Ulisses Soares
Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
My dear brothers and sisters, on this Easter Sunday, I bear my solemn witness that Jesus rose from the dead and that He lives. I testify to you that through Him and HIs infinite Atonement, the Savior provided us the way to overcome death, both physically and spiritually. In addition to these great blessings, He also offers us comfort and assurance in difficult times. I assure you that as we put our trust in Jesus Christ and in His supernal atoning sacrifice, enduring in our faith to the end, we will enjoy the promises of our beloved Heavenly Father, who does everything within HIs power to help us return to His presence one day. This is His work and His glory!

Up at 6:30. I've gotten to be quite lazy on Sundays. It's a hard habit to break.

This week's "Come Follow Me" takeaway:
In D&C 103:22 and 105:16 the Lord uses the phrase, "the strength of my house." As I read this phrase I asked myself, what is the strength of my house? "Covenant keepers live here, the Spirit is always welcomed and invited here; visual reminders of the Savior and our covenants are found here; our home is a place of intentional learning; we both forgive and seek forgiveness here; this is a home built on love. We know who we are in this house, we know God is good and we cannot get by without Christ. These are the strengths of my house."

Sheri and Evan were the only ones who went to sacrament meeting with us. We were a little late and since we are doing every other row, we sat in the overflow, behind the Bowen family. It was nice to see Sean although he was on oxygen.

Bishop and Pierce are both gone so Brother Grapp conducted. Ty Woods from the high council who is speaking today was on the stand with him. Brother Grapp gave this quote before the speakers began: "Conflict is inevitable, contention is a choice." - Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Next week is fast and testimony meeting because the week after is General Conference and the week after that is stake conference. Brother Grapp encouraged us to read Isaiah 58 as part of our fast next week.

Our first speaker today was Paige Flake. I'm not sure what ward she is in but she will be leaving for the Washington D.C. mission on October 4th. She talked about some of the attributes and roles of Christ.  He is the Great King Immanuel, He is the light and life of the world, the Creator, the Savior of the universe, He loved His neighbor and Atoned for our sins. In the song, "The Lord is My Light" it says He is our strength and our song. We must learn to rely on Him. In the Book of Mormon it says, "Zeniff did go up in the strength of the Lord to battle. I know Jesus Christ offers us strength. With Him we are never lost. He takes our weaknesses and makes them into strengths. (see Ether 12:27). The keeper of the Gate to the Celestial Kingdom is the Holy One of Israel. (see 2 Nephi 9:41) He waits for us with open arms. (Can you imagine running into them?) He is the bread of life and descended below all things. He is the Comforter and saves us from the Refiner's fire. He loves each of us and connects us to Heaven. Because of Him life is full of meaning and purpose. He is the Light of the world and we are all born with the light of Christ. Our light increases when we choose to follow Him. Missionaries carry the light of Christ. They are Christ-centered and have the power to teach us to become Christ-like. Sister Flake said to be a lighthouse, not a disco ball. She talked about the song "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam". Jesus is the Messenger of our Salvation. She bore her testimony before closing.

Special Musical Number: "Nearer My God to Thee" sung by Elder Wangsgard. He was absolutely awesome and could be a professional singer.

Brother Ty Woods - He spoke about miracles of the Savior. The Savior asked Peter, "Whom say ye that I am" Peter answered: "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God." President Nelson has said that we won't be able to survive spiritually in the future without the constant guidance of the Holy Ghost. Distraction and divisiveness are tools of the adversary. Contention is a choice. We must reduce and eliminate contention. Our hearts need to be knit together in unity and love. Sometimes we judge others on their worst actions. We must not do that. Meeting our Savior will be the ultimate moment in our lives. What direction are we headed? If we are to bring others to Christ we must be headed there ourselves. We also must choose to follow the Prophet.

Collin came and sat by me during Sunday School. Wendy was not with him. James asked him if Wendy was okay and he said, "no." She fell off a ladder last Tuesday. She shattered the bones near her elbow and had to have a plate put in during surgery. She also hurt her hip and is not able to walk without a walker. Wendy's birthday is this coming Wednesday and she will be turning 70. Collin said she is not looking forward to turning 70 and told her kids not to do anything for her birthday. I told him I was going to bring her a birthday cake. On the way out of Sunday School we told Tamara but she is going to be gone on Wednesday so I need to find someone else to go with me to present the cake and sing Happy Birthday.

Brother Applegate was supposed to teach Sunday School today but it was Brother Scott instead. Brother A got his second vaccine this week and got sick after the first so he must have had a reaction to keep him home today. Brother Scott did a good job but he has a difficult time getting people involved. James and I probably answered more questions than anyone. I told James I think that people aren't sure what he wants from the questions he's asking. Maybe he should ask, "what was your takeaway from this week's lesson?"

Adam, Kaitlyn, Joshua, Sheri, Evan, Michael, and Joe were all gone home when we returned to the cabin.  My friend Maxine had given us a loaf of zucchini bread and James and I both had a piece. Since it has pineapple in it, Kim didn't want to try it, but Brian did.

When Kim and Brian left we took a picture of them on the front porch as is our tradition. The only people we have left are Max and Alex and they are in the family room watching football. They are anxious to watch the Cardinal's game which starts at one. James and I were tired. We went into the bedroom to take our naps. James's nap was cut short because Anthony called and asked him and his companion, Brother Westbrook, to bring him the sacrament. They were gone a couple of hours. James said it was a good visit and he is glad they went. Anthony has COPD and is mostly staying at home.

The Cardinals beat the Vikings 34-33 and Max and Alex give me a hug before they head for home. I'm home alone until James gets back from Anthony's.

I worked on my blog this evening until I felt a little sluggish and went to the recliner to take a break. While there, James brought me some shrimp to eat.

"What We Are Learning and Will Never Forget"
President Russell M. Nelson
President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
The future is bright for God's covenant-keeping people. The Lord will increasingly call upon His servants who worthily hold the priesthood to bless, comfort, and strengthen mankind and to help prepare the world and its people for His Second Coming. It behooves each of us to measure up to the sacred ordination we have received. We can do this! I so testify, with my expression of love for each of you, my beloved brethren, in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Family Proclamation
#4
The First Commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God's commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.

"When your greatest desire is to let God prevail, to be part of Israel, so many decisions become easier. So many issues become nonissues! You know how best to groom yourself. You know what to watch and read, where to spend your time, and with whom to associate. You know what you want to accomplish. You know the kind of person you really want to become." - President Nelson

Awake and up at 6:23 a.m. James was already up and gone to Home Depot. When I stay up late, I sleep late. Sheri went on her run and when she came back she made pumpkin muffins. James came home and fixed the well and was done by 8 a.m.

James is ready to go but not everyone is up. He works on getting his pack together. Finally everyone is up. Kim and I take sandwich orders and everyone starts getting their things together. We leave around 10. James, Adam, Kaitlyn, and I are inside the truck and Sheri, Joshua and Evan are in the back of the truck. Alex, Michael, Max, and Joe take the Razr. The Razr went ahead and beat us to the top of Green's Peak. We passed woodcutters, campers, hunters, and joy riders. It was about 11 when we got to the top of the mountain.
James got everyone together and I took three pictures. Afterwards we had family prayer. James said, "Since this is a family hike we are going to ask Kaitlyn to give the prayer. She gave a very nice one.

The hikers begin as I leave to go back down the other side of the mountain where the road is. It took me an hour to get home, 12 p.m.
James had said they would be at the creek by 1:15 ready for lunch so Kim and I got busy making sandwiches. I did the pbj's and Kim did the ham, turkey, and provolone cheese which Sheri contributed. We got a text saying they wouldn't be there until 2 and then at 2 is was going to be after 3. We arrived at the spot at 3:30 and the hungry hikers were waiting. Kim and I were in the truck and Brian brought his car. Brian drove Adam, Kaitlyn, and Joshua back to the top of Green's Peak to pick up the Razr. Adam was exhausted. Kaitlyn wanted to finish the hike with Sheri, Alex, Max, Joe, and Michael, but she went with Adam instead. James has an ingrown toenail. He and Evan came back home with Kim and I in Kim's car. The hiker's did not take long to get to the cabin and now they can say that they hiked all the way from the top of Green's Peak to the cabin. These are all pretty experienced hikers and they can be proud of themselves. I was proud also of Adam for participating. Joshua says he hikes a lot with his dad and he loves it, Evan, not so much, but he did it.

Sheri brought steak for her family for dinner. Kim and Brian had a roast which they shared with James and I. I had marinated a piece of London Broil all day and asked Michael and James to help me broil it in the oven. Everyone else was finished eating before our London Broil was done and then it was just okay. I thought it would be much more tender. I know if you overcook it gets tough but we only cooked to 155 degrees. The kids ate it but there was lots left. I don't think I will be doing that again very soon. We also had rolls, asparagus, and salad.

Adam went upstairs to take a soak in the bathtub down by our offices. Michael went in to use the bathroom in the hallway by the kitchen and noticed that water was dripping from the ceiling. I guess there is a broken pipe. Something else that needs to be fixed.

"What Has Our Savior Done For Us"?
President Dallin H. Oaks
First Counselor in the First Presidency
"What has Jesus Christ done for me?" that sister asked. Under the plan of our Heavenly Father, He "created the heavens and the earth" (D&C 14:9) so that each of us could have the mortal experience necessary to seek our divine destiny. As part of the Father's plan, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ overcame death to assure each of us immortality. Jesus Christ's atoning sacrifice gives each of us the opportunity to repent  of our sins and return clean to our heavenly home. His commandments and covenants show us the way, and His priesthood gives the authority to perform the ordinances that are essential to reach that destiny. And our Savior willingly experienced all mortal pains and infirmities that He would know how to strengthen us in our afflictions.
Jesus Christ did all of this because He loves all of the children of God. Love is the motivation for it all, and it was so from the very beginning.

The Family Proclamation
#3
In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshipped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.

"The Principles of My Gospel"
"How do we hallow the Sabbath day? In my much younger years, I studied the work of others who had compiled lists of things to do and things not to do on the Sabbath. It wasn't until later that I learned from the scriptures that my conduct and my attitude on the Sabbath constituted a sign between me and my Heavenly Father. With that understanding, I no longer needed lists of dos and don'ts. When I had to make a decision whether or not an activity was appropriate for the Sabbath, I simply asked myself, 'What sign do I want to give to God?' that question made my choices about the Sabbath day crystal clear." - President Nelson

There is a problem with the water pressure. Something is wrong with the well. Why does this happen when we are expecting a houseful of people this weekend.

James thought he fixed it. It worked for awhile and then the pressure would go down. This went on throughout the day. This afternoon before we left for town, the pressure was fine.

Kim and I finished Season 1 of "The Great British Baking Show." Nancy was the winner.  Kim was bummed because the balloon puzzle has two missing pieces. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I bought it at Goodwill. The puzzle still looked great, one of my favorites.

James and I went to town after I finished cleaning upstairs and he cleaned off the patio. James went to Home Depot and Tractor Supply. He got horse feed at Tractor Supply. When we left, the well was working fine.

I picked up some things at Walmart and then we were on our way home. Alex, Joe, and Max greeted us as we drove into the garage. Joe and Alex heard that Grampa was going to take the hike tomorrow cross country and they objected, thinking they might get lost. They argued with James a little while and then went on a Razr ride. Later I came into the family room where Alex was sitting and he asked me, "Gramma, what do you think of grampa going cross country on the hike tomorrow. Do you think we will be okay." I said, "Alex, do you trust grampa?" Yes. "Then don't worry about it, you will be fine."
He didn't complain again.

Sheri and Evan came early this evening. Adam, Michael, Kaitlyn, and Joshua came after we went to bed. It was after 11:30. They tried to go to Walmart to pick up some groceries but it was closed. I knew they started closing early but when I looked online it said they were open until 11.

Alex did some bat wrangling during the night. One flew through the common area upstairs. Alex grabbed Max's jacket and whacked the bat. He bat went flying towards the fireplace and hit one of the triangle windows and then landed on the ground. Yay Alex! Alex said there is another one and hopefully he will be able to get him tomorrow night. I told them all to always keep their bedroom doors closed to keep the bats out of the bedrooms.

Before we went to bed the pressure on the well went down again. James called for everyone to come to the dining room table and told everyone if we were going to have water pressure tomorrow he needed to fix the well. Should he do it before the hike or after. He had originally wanted to leave at 6 a.m. Everyone present voted to have grampa fix the well before the hike. He thinks they said that because they wanted to stay up late tonight and not have to worry about getting up early. He agreed he would get to Home Depot when they opened and get back and be as quick as he could about fixing it.

Earlier today James and Brian went up to Green's Peak. James wanted to climb up the tower but it was locked. He wanted to see the exact direction as to where our house is but now he will just have to use his "spidey" skills.
