"Ye Shall Be Free"
Elder Thierry K. Mutombo
Of the Seventy
I testify of Him who died, was buried, and rose again the third day and ascended into heaven so that you and I receive the blessings of immortality and exaltation. He is "the light, . . . the life, and the truth" (Ether 4:12). He is the antidote and remedy to the confusion of the world. He is the standard of excellence for exaltation, even Jesus Christ.

The Living Christ

"That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God" (D&C 76:22-24).

Inklings
"Let's try to practice peace in a personal way, applying the grace and healing balm of the Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ to ourselves and our families and all those we can reach around us."
-Jeffrey R. Holland

James asked me to pray for him this morning. He left Sheri's around 4 and she did see him last night or this morning. She thought maybe he hadn't stayed but I told her he was probably just on the way to work and that he had spent the night there last night. She texted him and I was right. I'm grateful she is concerned about him.

James said he would try to be home by 3 but he didn't make it until 5. It's okay because it was almost 7 by the time the missionaries got here.

I left to go shopping this morning around 10. I also had to pick up my hydrochlorothiazide so of course I went to Walmart. I'm a little crazy to go on Saturday morning but I kept putting it off until I could put if off no longer. I got some baking supplies because I am making cakes for two sisters in our ward on Monday. For dinner tonight I got some dinner rolls, frozen corn, and another chuck roast. After I was done shopping I was going to go to Aliberto's and get a Arizona burro but decided I didn't want to spend the money.

Back at home I put the chuck roast in the small oven at 325. Hopefully it will be done about the same time as the one in the crockpot. I did not get a dessert at the store so I made a cake with a lemon cake mix I had in the pantry. I made a cheesecake frosting for the cake, adding some lemon juice which made the frosting a little thin, so I put it in the freezer for awhile.

James made the salad, put water and ice in the glasses, and replaced some lightbulbs.

Elder Cluff and Elder Wangsgard got here around 6:50. They had a zone conference and interviews in Lakeside plus they got lost and had to call me for directions.

The elders loved our house. Elder Wangsgard said he had thought about being a real estate photographer so he is especially interested in homes. I said the blessing on the food. We had shredded roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, salad, and rolls. Elder Cluff especially liked the roast beef and went back for seconds.

Elder Wangsgard is from Niceville, Florida which is near Destin on the Emerald coast. I told him I had been there. The elders told us about a zone challenge they had today, which they won. They told us about teaching Ginger and her husband and a new member Ken Johnson from Chandler. We gave them lots of food to take home.

James and I clean the kitchen together and then for our Saturday night date we watched, "Roadhouse Romance" on the Hallmark channel. Tyler Hynes and Lauren Alayna were the stars. Lauren was on American Idol and sang a few songs in this movie which I really enjoyed.

Elder Wangsgard and Elder Cluff. I forgot to take a picture last
night so James took this one during Elder's quorum. I asked him
why he didn't ask them to take off their masks. He said he was sorry and he would get another picture next week.

Jared took these photos during the service project
in New Orleans.

"Infuriating Unfairness"
Elder Dale G. Renlund
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Do not let unfairness harden you or corrode your faith in God. Instead, ask God for help. Increase your appreciation for and reliance on the Savior. Rather than becoming bitter, let Him help you become better. Allow Him to help you persevere, to let your afflictions be "swallowed up in the joy of Christ." Join Him in His mission "to heal the brokenhearted," strive to mitigate unfairness, and become a stonecathcer.

Of Him the Prophet also declared: "And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of Him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of Him: That He lives!

I am practicing personal peace and calling upon the powers of heaven through principles of patience, gentleness, and love unfeigned.

I got up at 5:25 this morning.  I sent a text to Paul and Sheri regarding our family hike on the 18th. I was pleased with the outcome. James and I had prayer. We read from the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants but didn't read a section from the "Come Follow Me" lesson because James needed to leave for his appointment.  This appointment is with the radiation doctor. His actual radiation doesn't start until the 20th. He does have another appointment on the 15th but I'm not sure what it is for.

James was going to go the Payson way because it is shorter to the job in Phoenix but the marque in Show Low said it was closed. I couldn't figure out why so I checked online. There is a wildfire between Christopher Creek and Forest Lakes due to a prescribed burn that got out of control. How sad.

It's 113 in Phoenix today. I reminded James to wear his hat. He forgot his sunscreen so his hat is very important. Last week when he came home his face was very brown because he forgot his hat.

Yesterday our friend Collin was inducted into the Arizona Fire Service Hall of Fame. Congratulations Collin. I will post some picture at the end of this post.

Most of my day was spent in front of the computer. I blogged for yesterday and then indexed 500 names. When I wasn't in front of the computer I was resting or walking. I managed to get over 10,000 steps. I'm trying to get back in my groove. I watched the 2017 season of "The Great British Baking Show" while I was resting. Sophie was the winner. She is my all-time favorite baker, so far, on any of the seasons I've watched. I have about four more seasons to watch. I like Sophie because she is soo good but also because she keeps calm and she never uses alcohol when she bakes. I know the alcohol burns out when it is cooked but for some reason I admire her for not using it.

James called me at 8:40 this evening. He said he had a headache and was going to bed. I went to bed a little after 10. James fed Luna this morning so I wanted have to feed her this evening.

Yesterday was President Nelson's 97th birthday. I forgot to post a picture of him so I will be posting one today.

My favorite scripture for this week's "Come Follow Me" lesson is found in D&C 101:16-"Be still and know that I am God."

"The Personal Journey of a Child of God"
Elder Neil L. Andersen
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
I express my love and compassion for righteous couples who marry and are unable to have the children they so eagerly anticipate and to those women and men who have not had the opportunity to marry according to God's law. The unrealized dreams of life are difficult to understand if viewed only from the perspective of mortality. As the Lord's servant, I promise you that as you are faithful to Jesus Christ and your covenants, you will receive compensating blessings in this life and your righteous desires in the eternal time line of the Lord. There can be happiness in the journey of mortality even when all of our righteous hopes are not realized.

Of the Living Christ, the Prophet Joseph wrote: "His eyes were as a flame of fire; the hair of his head was white like the pure snow; His countenance shone above the brightness of the sun; and His voice was as the sound of the rushing of great waters, even the voice of Jehovah, saying:
"I am the first and the last; I am He who liveth, I am He who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father" (D&C 110:3-4).

Affirmation:

I love studying the gospel, it is one of my greatest passions!

I have a love/hate with modern technology. I love it when it works right and I hate it when it doesn't. I paid my Dish bill on my phone today which was very handy.

I listened to "Follow Him" while working on my blog this morning. I am so happy to finally be caught up on my blog! James brought me an amazing salad for lunch. I also watched "The Great British Baking Show". Some of their expressions are so different from ours that it makes me laugh. Today a contestant named Stacy said, after getting Star Baker, "I'm well chuffed." I think she means she is happy. Later someone said they were "gutted" because they did so poorly. Here's another one: "I'm absolutely gobsmacked I didn't go home." So far this season they've had bread week, caramel week, pudding week, and pastry week.

While walking I listened to "Heart in the Highlands." This is the first time I've done 10,000 in a long time, in over a month. I'm also behind on my indexing and did some catching up today. I did over 400 names but in order to get 3,000 this month I need to have 900 names by today.

I helped James with tax information again today. I think he is finished and ready to hand everything over to the accountant.

Here are some quotes from my studies today:
"It is the Holy Ghost that bears witness of your words when you teach and testify. It is the Holy Ghost that, as you speak in hostile venues, puts into your heart what you should say and fulfills the Lord's promise that "you shall not be confounded before men" (D&C 100:5). It is the Holy Ghost that reveals how you may clear the next seemingly insurmountable hurdle. It is by the Holy Ghost in you that others may feel the pure love of Christ and receive strength to press forward."

From "Follow Him":
"The Lord uses the evil actions of others to create a Zion-hearted people, which is a message for the early Saints and for us today."

"If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him."

I would echo the invitation of our beloved President Russell M. Nelson as he first spoke to the membership of the Church. He said: "Now, to each member of the Church I say, keep on the covenant path. Your commitment to follow the Savior by making covenants with Him and then keeping those covenants will open the door to every spiritual blessing and privilege available to men, women, and children everywhere."

The Living Christ
#5
He rose from the grave to "become the firstfruits of them that slept" (1 Corinthians 15:20). As Risen Lord, He visited among those He had loved in life. He also ministered among His "other sheep" (John 10:16) in ancient America. In the modern world, He and His Father appeared to the boy Joseph Smith, ushering in the long-promised "dispensation of the fulness of times" (Ephesians 1:10).

When He saw the multitudes He was moved with compassion on them.

I got up at 6 a.m. I slept in my bed all night long, the first time since my accident. I finished Monday's blog post and had scriptures and prayers with James and then it was time for me to get ready to go pick up a sister in our ward. In order to protect privacy I am going to call this sister Jane, not her real name.

Here is Jane's story. She is 75 years old and has had two strokes. The last one was the worst, especially affecting her right side. About a month ago her husband left to go stay with his daughter in the valley. She has not heard from him since. She needed a ride to the bank today because she thinks maybe her husband's daughter may want to steal from her. She told me the Lord warned her. She is closing out her bank account and opening another one in her maiden name.

When we got to National Bank it took awhile for us to walk in. I carried her purse and held her left hand while she used her right hand to hold her cane. The banker, a woman,  who worked with her, knew her and asked if she had had another stroke. While Jane met with the banker I waited in the lobby. I should have gone outside and walked because it took well over an hour.

When Jane was finished the banker helped me get her to the car. I could tell Jane was losing her steam. She wanted to go eat at LaCasita. She had said earlier that she wanted to take me to lunch. She told me she was type 1 diabetic. I asked her if she had a quick sugar and she said no. When we got to LaCasita we sat right by the door. Immediately the waitress came over with some chips and took our drink orders. Jane ordered iced tea. When I ordered water she said, "don't you want ice tea"? I said no. I ordered what I normally order, a chicken enchilada with red sauce and a side of rice and beans. Jane ordered a #6, an enchilada and a chili relleno with a side of rice and beans. Barbara put sugar substitute in her iced tea. I told her if she wanted to bring her blood sugar up she should put in some sugar, which she did.

Jane kept thanking me for bringing her to town. She said her husband and daughter and the daughter's son took her truck when they left so she has no transportation. She shouldn't be driving anyway, which she readily admitted.

I told her we could go to lunch again and she got very excited. She said she would love to come once a week but I can't commit to that right now. She said she would pay and I said we would take turns.

On the way home Jane said I was a good driver. She said her husband was not and his driving scared her. I ask her if she missed him and she said, no. She said he smoke, cussed, and was mean to her for 17 years and she felt more peace now that she was gone. She has two cats and a dog that keep her company. When we got to her house she wanted me to come in and meet her dog and cats, which I did. We said our goodbyes and I told her to call me when she was ready to go to lunch again. We were gone 4 hours today.

I stopped at the post office on the way home and was surprised I had no packages. I hope I am remembering to order Prime because nothing I ordered is coming until next week.

James is working on taxes and was waiting for the 2015 deposits from our personal account. I immediately sat down and began  running them off.

James had a presidency meeting this evening. I fixed him some dinner before he left. I am enjoying my new book, "Heart in the HIghlands." James is also enjoying "Blackmoor" which we are listening to together.

I listened to Emily and Dave on "Don't Miss This" today. Here are some of the notes I took: "190 women and children with 3 men were driven thirty miles on foot... I could easily follow on their trail because of the blood ..." - Lyman Wight
"The scene was indescribable, and, I am sure would have melted the hearts of any people on earth, except for our blind oppressors." - Parley P. Pratt
"I've learned to love the thing I wished the most had never happened."
In November 1833 as the saints were driven out of Jackson county they camped along the Missouri river and experienced a fantastic meteor shower. Some thought it was the introduction of the Second Coming of the Savior. Brother W. W. Phelps sat down and wrote the hymn, "Now Let Us Rejoice."

Sandra Dee was my favorite.
I didn't like Bobby Darin.

The last two pictures were taken
in Vernon.

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
In too many instances, otherwise faithful men, women, and even children can be guilty of speaking unkindly, even destructively, to those to whom they may well be sealed by a holy ordinance in the temple of the Lord. Everyone has the right to be loved, to feel peaceful, and to find safety at home. Please, ma we try to maintain that environment there. The promise of being a peacemaker is that you will have the Holy Ghost for your constant companion and blessings will flow to you "without compulsory means" forever. No one can employ a sharp tongue or unkind words and still "sing the song of redeeming love."

We solemnly testify that His life, which is central to all human history, neither began in Bethlehem nor concluded on Calvary. He was the Firstborn of the Father, the Only Begotten Son in the flesh, the Redeemer of the world.

How do we find what He called the covenant of peace?

Sadly listening to Saints and Revelation in Context where the Saints are driven from Jackson county. It is hard to think this hatred and violence occurred in America. "After much tribulations cometh the blessings." Some of the calamities happened because of the Saints transgressions. D&C 90:24 - Search diligently, pray always, and be believing, and all things shall work together for your good, if ye walk uprightly and remember the covenant wherewith ye have covenanted one with another.

I was working on my blog and got up to walk a 1,000 steps but my left knee hurt and I couldn't do it. Later this afternoon it was better and by the end of the day I had 6,000, more than I've had for about a month now.

I had a bit of a rough day today. I did not feel well and had to take a few naps after taking tramadol. At 1:30 I sat down to work on the computer, feeling much better. I watched "The Great British Baking Show" while I tried to get the computer up and running. Finally I was able to get in running and finished Sunday's post. Next I began working on James's tax records. Another problem, the printer won't work. I removed the printer device on the computer and was going to re-install it but the icon never came up. It took me well over an hour to get it reinstalled and then I ran off the bank deposits for all twelve months of 2014.

James was going to stay in the valley to start the workers out in the morning but he realized he did not bring a pill that he has to take. The doctor told him not to miss one dose, so he's coming home tonight but won't get here until 10 p.m.

Quote by Marion G. Romney from listening to "Act in Doctrine":
"I always know when I am speaking under the influence of the Holy Ghost because I always learn something."

Rahul won this season's "The Great British Baking Show." He is a little Indian man who has no confidence and is very humble. I was glad that he won.
