"Hearts Knit Together"
Elder Gary E. Stevenson
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
When asked, "Master, which is the great commandment?"
the Savior replied to "love the Lord thy God with all thy heart," followed by, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." The Savior's response reinforces our heavenly duty. An ancient prophet commanded "that there should be no contention one with another, but that we should look forward ...., having our hearts knit together in unity and in love one towards another." We are further taught that "Power of influence ... ought to be maintained ... by gentleness and meekness, ... by kindness, ... without guile."

Faith
Great buildings were never constructed on uncertain foundations. Great causes were never brought to success by vacillating leaders. Faith has always been, and always must be, at the root of any meaningful practice and endeavor.

Happy 7th Birthday Lola!
James, Ruby, Lola and I left this morning a little before 6 a.m. to meet Darrel at the Circle K in Heber. We arrived right on time, at 7 a.m. It was almost 7:30 before Darrel arrived. We got the girls into Darrel's truck after saying our goodbyes. Darrel gave us a bag of things to give to Rowan and inside he had an Amazon card for me and a Home Depot card for James for Mother's Day and Father's Day.
We got home at 8:30 and had to rush to make it to church on time. Sheri, Ben, and Evan were ahead of us in Sheri's car.
We sat in the overflow but Sheri made sure we had soft chairs. Bishop Hunsaker conducted the meeting. We sang "The Star Spangled Banner" as the opening song and Wendy DeWitt gave the invocation. It was nice to see Anthony at the meeting. Ben's hair looked wild and uncombed.
Before the testimonies began Brother Wright got up and told of a testimony meeting he attended close to Memorial Day where everyone got up and praised those who defend our country but never once mentioned the Savior. He reminded us to remember Christ in our testimonies. 15 people bore their testimonies and several mentioned going to "The Rodeo." I suppose they were referring to the Taylor Rodeo. The person who gave the opening prayer gave a powerful prayer and asked for rain. It rained the entire rest of the evening but no one left. My favorite testimony was the last one given by Brother Goodman. He said, "It is faith in Jesus Christ that made this country great." After the sacrament James and I of course stayed for the second hour while Sheri, Evan and Ben left. I got a text around 10 from Rowan asked if we had left yet. He said he was sorry he slept in. I guess he thought we would wake him, but we were so rushed we didn't think of it.
Brother Applegate taught Sunday School. He kept mentioning my name and what I had shared two weeks ago.
When we got home from church I broke my fast. James continued to fast until later this afternoon. My friend Pam brought us almond bearclaws and apple fritters from Safeway. They were delicious.
Sheri was just finishing making breakfast croissants for the boys with eggs, bacon, and sausage. She also made salsa yesterday. It is delicious! This afternoon she made a blueberry pie to die for, and a yellow cake with chocolate frosting for Ian. She had to run into town to get some strips for Max's meter. For dinner she made hamburgers and hotdogs.
Rowan and Evan asked to use the Razr this afternoon. They found two more rattlesnakes over by what they call "the Resort." I asked Rowan later if they killed the snakes and he said no.
This evening for "Come Follow Me" we read D&C 74-75 and then had family prayer together.
I miss Ruby and Lola.
