Against headwinds of pandemic and calamity, bringing about the full promise of the new Children and Youth program is still a work in progress - but there is urgency. Our youth cannot wait for the world to right itself before they come to know the Savior. Some are making decisions even now that they would not make if they understood their true identities - and His.

Restoration Proclamation
P6 S1
We declare that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, organized on April 6, 1830, is Christ's New Testament Church restored.

It took me about three hours to get going in the morning. I'm pretty miserable with my sciatic nerve problem until the tramadol kicks in.
I have other health issues but they are personal and don't think I should discuss them here. They can probably be resolved as I change to a more healthy diet.

Kim and Brian are going to San Diego tomorrow. Since they weren't able to go in June, this is a makeup trip. Joe, Michael, Alex, and Shayna will be joining them on Sunday.

All of the Christmas stuff is down and today I cleaned the living room. It's nice to have things back to normal.

I love studying about the First Vision from JS-History. I'm still watching Hallmark movies as they have them for every season. Also James and I are finishing up our latest culinary mystery by Josi Kilpack, "Tres Leche Cupcakes."

The missionaries came out this afternoon to help James with the fence up on the hill. There are some many big rocks it has been difficult to get the posts to stay in. There were only two of them and they worked two hours and James said they saved him about 10 hours of work. One of the Elders, Elder Weaks from Idaho, grew up on a 300 head cattle ranch in Idaho and has lots of experience building fences.

I talked to Sheri today about dad's broken frames and lost lens. She said she had already ordered him new lenses because when she was here in December she noticed he needed them. She told me to have him bring the frames in and she would fix them. She knows her dad so she also told me not to let him try and fix the frames with glue.

James fixed dinner this evening, cord, salad, broccoli and leftover steak. Pretty tasty. He's better with fixing leftovers than I am.

'Sustainable Societies'
Elder D. Todd Christofferson
I think it safe to say that when people turn from a sense of accountability to God and begin to trust instead in the "arm of flesh, disaster lurks. Trusting in the arm of flesh is to ignore the divine Author of human rights and human dignity and to give highest priority to riches, power, and the praise of the world (while often mocxking and persecuting those who follow a different standard). Meanwhile, those in sustainable societies are seeking, as King Benjamin said, to "grow in the knowledge of the glory of him that created them, or in the knowledge of that which is just and true."

Restoration Proclamation
P5 S4
As a companion scripture to the Bible, the Book of Mormon testifies that all human beings are sons and daughters of a loving Father in Heaven, that He has a divine plan for our lives, and that His Son, Jesus Christ, speaks today as well as in day of old.

The January book season is here and I've been selling some books. Since I started in 2019 these are my stats: Sold 723 books with sales of $24,166.42. Too bad I'm not making more money, if I was, I would stick with it. I've sold six CISA Manuals with the last five sales being in Bowling Green, Ohio.

James and I went to town to pick up Tramadol and tacos. It was my idea to get tacos because I had a craving. We were going to go to LaCasita but the parking lot was full so we ended up going to Filiberto's. The taco I had was okay, but nothing special.

After lunch we made our way to Walmart. James went to pick up the tramadol while I did some shopping. I am pretty disgusted with this Walmart. The store is messy, the shelves are empty, there are boxes stacked everywhere and employees are pushing big carts around making it hard to shop.

James got horse feed, came back and picked up my Tramadol. James helped me check out. I had bought two small containers of cream of tartar which I use in my snickerdoodle cookies. James had just cleaned out the spice drawer and put lots of duplicates downstairs. He had told me to check to see if we already had it before I bought anymore spices. I had not checked. I bought two bottles to have on hand. When he saw them he got upset and said we already had some at home. He thought I was deliberately defying him, which I was not. I just like to have things on hand. I had, I thought used all of the cream of tartar the last time I made snickerdoodles. Any way, it was a ridiculous thing to have an argument over. It's the little things sometimes that make all of the difference.

To make matters worse, on the way out of Walmart, as James took off his mask, he dropped his glasses. The frame broke and one of the lenses fell out. I gave him the frames and lens. He put the lens back in and as he was walking out to the car the lens fell out and he lost it.

I got two packages today. One was the Joseph Smith Papers book I ordered with my Deseret Book gift card, and the other was some small notebooks I ordered from Amazon. James asked why I needed more notebooks. I reminded him that he told me I could use my Amazon gift card for anything I wanted. He apologized and said I was right.

I was able to blog and get my steps today. I am grateful I feel well enough to do both of these things. I'm still watching the winter Hallmark movies.

'Love Your Enemies'
President Dallin H. Oaks
An essential part of loving our enemies is to render unto Caesar by keeping the laws of our various countries. Though Jesus's teachings were revolutionary, He did not teach revolution or lawbreaking. He taught a better way. Modern revelation teaches the same:
"Let no man break the laws of the land, for he that keepeth the laws of God hath no need to break the laws of the land.
Wherefore, be subject to the powers that be"
(Doctrine and Covenants 58:21-22).
And our article of faith, written by the Prophet Joseph Smith after the early Saints had suffered severe persecution from Missouri officials, declares, "We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law" (Articles of Faith 1:12).
This does not mean that we agree with all that is done with the force of law. It means that we obey the current law and use peaceful means to change it. It also means that we peacefully accept the results of elections. We will not participate in the violence threatened by those disappointed with the outcome. In a democratic society we always have the opportunity and the duty to persist peacefully until the next election.

It teaches of life's purpose and explains the doctrine of Christ, which is central to that purpose.

I got up around 4:30 this morning. I had some cereal and then took Tramadol and aspirin. I listened to President Oaks's talk, "Love Your Enemies" which seemed appropriate with what's going on the world today. I also listened to a Church News podcast where Sheri Dew interviews Wendy Watson Nelson about President Nelson. Kacey listened to the interview and this was her comment:
"I love what she said about being immersed in the gospel and if we only sprinkle a little here and a little there, we will only know enough about the gospel to feel guilty and not enough to feel joy."

I also listened to a new Come Follow Me podcast by Hank Smith and John Bytheway called "Follow Him." I now follow six different Come Follow Me broadcasts.

Some of the food I had to eat today: Cereal, ham, eggs, toast, lime pie, fettucini.

I got a little ahead of myself yesterday. We did not actually get the tree put away, we got it undecorated. Today James took all of the lights off the tree and I put all of them in boxes. I keep having cramps in my legs and keep going back to the recliner and the heating pad.

James and I watched "Dater's Handbook" starring Meghan Markle and Kevin Polaha. Afterwards I took a nap while James went out to work. The next movie I watched was, "A Dash of Love" starring Jen Lilley and Brendan Penny. I didn't start really moving until around 4 p.m. and wound up getting over 13,000 steps.

James had a pot pie for dinner.

Your temple recommend reflects a deep, spiritual intent that you are striving to live the laws of the Lord and love what He loves: humility, meekness, steadfastness, charity, courage, compassion, forgiveness, and obedience. And you commit yourself to those standards when you sign your name to that sacred document.

Restoration Proclamation
P5 S2
Pages of this sacred text include an account of the personal ministry of Jesus Christ among people in the western Hemisphere soon after His Resurrection.

The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning since having this sciatic pain, is to eat something and then take some Tramadol and aspirin. I also use Deep Blue, a heating pad, and the Tens machine.

James was going in to town today to CVS to get tested for Covid. He told Anthony about it and Anthony went first. Anthony called and said when he got there they told him he had to register online before coming down to be tested. James went online but could never find a time that was available so he gave up. James did go to town but he did not get tested.

I was able to walk, blog, and do a little cleaning today. James and I undecorated the tree and this evening James took it apart and put it downstairs.

Willie Grombach made the gates for our fence. There are three of them. He and James agreed on a price, $150. Willie put better latches than what James had originally thought he would use so he said he would pay him $50 more. James figured the price for each gate at $200 per gate, making a total of $600. When he handed Willie the check, Willie was shocked! He said, oh I thought we agreed on $200 for the total price! James said no, that would not be fair. How often does something like this happen. I told James this is a guy we want to do business with any time we can! He is Pat Tedder's son-in-law and is taking the missionary discussions. He is a great guy and I hope he joins the Church!

I paid for our time share today and sold two more CISA manuals. James took the signed Relief Society birthday cards to Tamara at the library and visited the Howard's. Tom wants to use our trailer to go to the valley and pick up Dustin's car which is in a compound lot and is costing them a lot of money. Tom wants he and James to go in Tom's truck and for Jean and I to go in their car. He said he would handle all costs and would buy us lunch at Firebird's. I'm not sure I can sit in a car for that long. My infusion is on Monday and I asked James to talk to Tom about going on Monday. He wants me to take Jean because he does not want to leave her at home alone. She is very forgetful and I think Tom is afraid something will happen to her.
It's settled, we are going on Monday.

I'm still watching Hallmark movies in order to get my mind off my pain.
